Congratulations @Ouryve! Your coat is a worthy winner. You can see time, skill and determination that went into finishing it :loveit:

I posted about my Pattern Emporium Songbird jacket on another thread https://thesewingplace.org.uk/index.php/topic,16149.msg333685.html#msg333685, and there are pics of the unfinished (barely started) project near the start of this thread, so I'm hoping you can locate and assemble them for the voting thread @SewRuthieSews. Here's the finished garment anyway.

Four weeks ago I fractured my kneecap and ruptured the quadriceps tendon - too extensive for surgery "at my age" so I'm in a knee brace and on crutches. Then last Tuesday my carer, DH, was admitted to hospital as an emergency with acute pancreatitis. It's been mad so I didn't finish my other UFOs despite the best intentions when life was 'normal'.

Anyway, thanks for including me (hopefully) in the comp.

It is indeed comfy @Ouryve. The pattern is drafted for woven fabric but there's a section in the instructions on adapting it for jersey. Here it advises cutting the band shorter and stretching when attaching it between the shoulder seams. That worked well - I like a cardi/jacket to nestle my neck, in any season.

It's just a straight piece @Ohsewsimple - nothing fancy.

Pattern Emporium Songbird kimono jacket (my second) in some of the thinnest stretchiest fabric I've ever worked with, bought years ago so best guess it's probably viscose/elastane - feels lovely anyway, and it's very drapy and mysteriously both cool and cosy. Even DH likes the colour!

Alterations - extended front band to hemline, lengthened cropped version 2 inches, and sized up (yes, up) so it's actually well oversize ++. It's to wear over t-shirts etc in the summer and I like things loose in the heat. It turned out a little looser than planned but fine. I notice the sleeves appear to have been cut off grain despite my efforts, but it shows less when they're pushed up. Nothing's perfect :sorry: Pockets would have been nice but pointless in this fabric.

Next time I will ignore the PE website instructions for extending the front band and do it my way. Otherwise it's a great pattern with several hem lengths and types/lengths of sleeve, plus other variations. As a UFO from last month's comp it will be my first competition entry ever :).

This is my UFO no. 2: yarn is Hayfield Bonus Chunky Tweed - colour 'pool'

I want to rip back the ribbing on that armhole and re-knit with 4 more stitches as I'd like a little more room. Then do the second armhole, the front bands (need to buy a size 6 circular needle first), side seams and source and add buttons. Hoping the comp deadline will stop me procrastinating.

As it happens I have an unfinished object from the last comp. It's my second Songbird jacket in an unbelievably stretchy viscose-y fabric bought in York (where my bro lives) around 2016.

This is how it looked on 1 May (on the starter's blocks)

and on 5th May just in time....away! Shoulders joined, one sleeve pinned...

And without looking further I have two u/f knitting projects  :).

It can be confusing, I agree, all those ads don't help but they pay for the freebies. They used Craftsy in the past but mostly Payhip now. Which patterns were you after Ruthie?

So Sew Easy https://so-sew-easy.com/free-sewing-patterns/ has loads of free patterns - wearables, bags and home items. I haven't made any but I've used the neckline from the "On a roll t-shirt" with M6886 several times.

Think I sent you that a few years ago Jessie? Not an easy pattern - I had good intentions when I bought it, cut to size, even bought the fabric but stalled. Bravo for tackling it at all! I'd love to see your "coat dress" so I hope you'll post some pics for us  :).

@toileandtrouble has done more than me :embarrassed:. Tnight my fabric is still in one piece on the cutting table while I assemble a different size pdf of my Songbird pattern. It's been a busy public holiday weekend, that's my excuse. So no entry but at least I've something in progress. Well done everyone!

Wonder tape or Steam-a-seam are my go-tos for situations like this.

A Good Yarn / Re: I'm knitting a gilet.

Unfortunately I have major sensitivity to wool and most synthetic fibres so anything I wear next to my skin has to be cotton (cotton/lycra is OK too thank goodness). This was brought home to me recently when I foolishly replaced my threadbare cotton bed-socks with a fluffy pair made from 100% polyester. A bright red seriously itchy rash spread everywhere and I needed a course of oral steroids - that was only 2 weeks ago.

So I may be knitting with more cotton yarn before long but meanwhile there are lots of different waistcoat patterns!

Thanks @sewmuchmore - there are 3 freebie bags once you've registered. I chose the Sling Bag too. Should be a nice easy, handy make.
