For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Greist buttonholer for sale
« on: February 18, 2018, 21:22:13 PM »
Hi all,
I have a Griest buttonholer (domestic straight shank)for sale at £13 includes PnP
I’ve just clean and oiled it, so it’s moving freely, has 5 templates feed plate cover and manual.
The box top is really fragile.

These are great buttonholers put the cam in the bottom align it make sure the device is in the right phase and run it with a straight stitch same button hole every time.

Any queries let me know.

Here’s an odd one- it’s a brown 320k collection only. But no cable (should be easy to replace) it also doesn’t have a Cam reader or a set of piano keys- it doesn’t look like they were removed just that they’re not part of this model. I have heard of this with 306 &319 but not a 320... but I also haven’t seen a brown 320.

Also it’s been serviced by Alex Askarov (sp) of Sewalot fame!

Looks like a nice bernina- not functional (no explanation) and collection only. Fair few parts and of course the machine so if it’s isnt thread caught in the race (usual non functioning fault I find on Berninas) then it’s probably good for parts.

I’m thinking about putting an order into Sew Classic in the US... http://shop.sew-classic.com

Anybody got any bits and pieces they want but couldn’t justify a whole order/postage?

Publications / Stitch, cloth, Shimmer and Shine
« on: February 01, 2018, 21:52:41 PM »
I’ve just been reading Stitch, cloth, Shimmer and Shine by Sarah Lawrence.

I was expecting more reading, but it’s heavy on pics with short explanations, enough to give you the idea and inspiration but not enough to become prescriptive. The pics are great samples, processes, and lustrous finished pieces!

I think all in all a very inspiring starting place for mixed media/artistic embellishment sewing. There are definitely parts in here I will use, especially some of the bold hand sewing, cord making and intriguing friendly plastic.

The Haberdashery / Net silk thread
« on: January 29, 2018, 21:05:13 PM »
I turned up a spool (wooden) of Net Silk it’s a lovely thread really soft and smooth, and flexible. I wondered if there was a modern equivalent I had a rummage on google but couldn’t find anything other than jewellery...

Any one know anything about it?

Vintage Machines / Peeved... repair quotes
« on: January 28, 2018, 11:43:26 AM »
Hi all,

Just approached a gent about getting my 95k40 electrics looked at and was somewhat niffed by the response...

He went straight to it’ll need a new motor and pedal... admittedly not a bad price... for a domestic motor... I have a good mind to accept the quote... after all it’s extremely reasonable for a new clutch motor. But I don’t want a new motor and the whole response looks professional but lazy...

I’m probably unduly irked because I’m familiar with the machine...

Bah!

Vintage Machines / 401/500 Twin needles
« on: January 28, 2018, 09:39:47 AM »
I’ve heard about twin needles on the 400 & 500 series... you just throw 2 needles in and you’re good to go... but I’d never tried it and hadn’t found much to support it as viable. Finally found this:

It’s a nice feature and nice that it doesn’t need the special split needle.

The Haberdashery / The eclipse magnet
« on: January 26, 2018, 20:10:34 PM »
I found in a box of bits this funny little magnet... it’s slightly more than 1/2 and inside a matched aluminium shell... I suspect there’s a devious way to use it... but I can’t figure it out... but I do love the retro charm!

I can’t seem to get my featherweight (221) packed sensibly in its box with tray and leads...

So I wanted to ask.... how do you pack yours?

Thank you!

If you should fancy a cobbling heavy duty machine as a project here is an affordable one with other vintage cobbling equipment and pretty badly listed:
Vintage industrial treadle sawing machine large heavy duty https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F152860832811

I think they use a redundant needle type tho... so Caveat Emptor!

But they are usually still a lot more expensive than this.
