One of our neighbours isn’t wearing his shorts yet so it’s not time to change.

I’ve put boots away and dug out loafers as well washing and moving my heaviest quilted coat to the wardrobe but that’s as far as I’m going until the weather is warmer.

Hi, I'm new... / Re: New chap settling in.

Hallo @TangledBloke   You've come to the right place for help and inspiration.  I found altering trousers for my OH fairly easy as mens' trousers are assembled differently from womens'.

@CAFCgirl   I agree and I make sure I don't let people know in which of the towns I live as there are certain parts of Medway that I won't visit even during the day.

Best of luck with your return to sewing and hope your dress turns out well.

I can remember making something very similar back in the 80s and it turned out to be absolutely enormous round the hips and I ended up altering it to make a skirt.

By the way, it's good to see another member from Medway.

I've been so impressed by all your beautiful quilts and they have inspired me to have another go at making a very small quilt.  If it had been a competition I would want to vote for all of them.

My Bernina 630 asks for oil when it's thirsty.

@Bjay   I feel for you as I did the same on our carpet and everyone remarked on it as they walked into the room

I paid my sub about a fortnight ago but it’s not showing up on my profile.

Machine Accessories / Re: Scissors

I still can’t use a rotary cutter despite trying so it’s back to scissors.  I don’t know what I do wrong but I don’t either cut the fabric or the ruler moves and I end up trimming with scissors.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Where are you all buying your fabric?
« on: March 15, 2024, 18:02:43 PM »
@Lachica   beautiful fabric, the type of which I love on other people but hate on me.  I always end up with plain, stripes, or checks.

I’ve been buying fabric from Pound Fabrics and have been pleased with my purchases and the service has been good compared with some places.

Sewing Machines / Re: Help please for this singer!
« on: March 14, 2024, 13:46:29 PM »
The only reports I have heard about the Singer HD machines is that they are a bit iffy as they are either good or awful.  I don’t know about the current Pfaffs although I had one years ago which I never really bonded with although I never had any problems.

I have about ten pairs of scissors including a pair of Ernest Wright scissors but, like HenriettaMaria, find them very heavy.  I use Kai scissors for most of my sewing as I can't get on with rotary cutters.  My collection also includes tailoring shears, duckbillls, embroidery, buttonhole, pinking shears, and a very old pair of Singer scissors used only for paper cutting.

I too would recommend Prosharp for sharpening scissors and I've also bought scissors from them.

I occasionally creep over to the dark side but I'm full of awe and admiration for what you have all produced.  It will be impossible to choose for whom to vote.

@Morgan    my Bernina 800DL was made by Juki and is identical to MO-214D but I don’t know who makes them now for Bernina.
