Yesterday was a special day, I wore a dress, gold earrings and my new coat to the theatre, but as it was a matinee I left the tiara behind!! Milton Keynes isn't big on tiaras.

In the wardrobe / Re: Cutting singularly or double?
« on: February 02, 2024, 17:31:18 PM »
I always cut shirt fronts singly, as well as anything that requires pattern matching. I find it very hard to fold fabric evenly especially jersey, so one half may be off grain.

Don't they look at any Indie designers who are producing clothes close to what people are wearing now? They seem stuck in a time warp where women are dressing up to attend gala events!

I think you would be really brave to attempt that. I suspect it wouldn't be very waterproof afterwards.
There would be a lot of unpicking. Maybe @Sandra could suggest how to proceed?

Hi, I'm new... / Re: New to the forum

Welcome @The Shrinking Sewist ! I found using my phone on a little stand to take photos is a great fitting aid. Set it on 10sec delay and you don't need to involve other people who never really get what  you are trying to see.
My challenge is my back and bottom so pics are essential.

For sheer wearability Merchant and Mills Harlene dungarees. There was so much topstitching however.

Starryfish's entry #2

A Folded fabric star mobile.

We had a class on making folded fabric stars at craft group. You start with 4 14" by 4" inch strips of fabric then by folding and plaiting you end up with star.

I bound a metal ring with red ribbon and hung the stars from it with gold string. It's an appalling photo against a rainy window but I hope you can see how it works. I may make more next year.

I've got wool ready for 2 new sweaters! One is a Petiteknit v neck ( She's Danish and makes lovely knits), and the other is a Drops cable knit.

I agree with @Ouryve , about the Olympic theme, how about  shorts, leggings, walking trousers or other things for exercise?
I don't do peach either !
How about florals for spring? Groundbreaking ( thank you Meryl Streep).

Patterns Discussion / Re: Simple gathered dress for a child

I agree with Greybird, 2:1 would be about right. If you have too much gathered jersey it would be bulky and may drag the bodice down.

I've made some Christmas stockings for my 3 toddler grandsons.

They are made from panels so all I needed to do was line them with red fabric and wadding, then bind the top. The labels are printed on the panels as well. I hope and trust these are the last I will have to make!

A Good Yarn / Re: Anyone used Drops Alpaca?
« on: November 23, 2023, 20:03:24 PM »
I'm wearing a cardigan now made from Drops Alpaca- https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=11037&cid=19. It's so soft ,warm and comfortable!

I really recommend this yarn, will probably knit something else soon.

I really like Regia although it is the same price as the WYS- £8.49 on Wool Warehouse. Drops Fabel is cheaper at £4.60 but it doesn't self stripe quite as well as Regia.

Yes, it was me talking about the Ispahan jacket! I saw them at the Knit and Stitch show recently and they had samples of their patterns on their stall, I actually saw that jacket ! It looked lovely. Two of my friends bought other patterns, so I will let you know how they turn out.

I have three Christmas stockings to make for the 2022 crop of grandchildren, hopefully the last! I've got the fabric so will get going on that sometime in the next month or so.
