Last one I got (off Ebay) @sewmuchmore    had to come from the USA ,although considering the postage wasn't too bad.

I don't think I'd really want to set myself a target @Ann if I did I think it would take some of the pleasure of sewing away, bit like having to do it to keep myself on target.  I sew for pleasure if it's done relatively quick, then maybe the next one will take weeks or may not, it doesn't matter.

That's a plus, no electricity required @WildAtlanticWay I have this fear of the lights going out and not being able to sew.

Sewing Machines / Re: Grinding noise
« on: November 27, 2020, 15:06:04 PM »
Pfaffs do make an unusual noise when stitching ... like grinding glass, in my opinion, It quite alarmed me the first time I heard it ...  but I think that is just their quirk as the stitching is, as you say, beautiful

Im now going to prepare to take shelter from all the abuse Im about to receive from Pfaff owners!!!

Actually @Iminei  my Pfaff Select 4 always gives the impression it is thinking about it before it starts although I have to say the Bernina Overlocker has the same affliction, bit of an rrrr and she goes..

In the wardrobe / Re: Skirt Dilemma - Which One Do I Make?
« on: November 25, 2020, 16:26:46 PM »
At risk of sounding negative I think both of those would look best on someone very tall but I do prefer the first one

Same here, wouldn't suit me too old but the other one would look even worse. I think there is an age range for this kind of skirt, plus the ability to carry it.

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Re: Free pattern booklet

I'd love to give that a home if it's still available please?
Thanks
Leila

added - is that 3 different patterns or all together in one booklet? Would rehome them all if possible, I collect such lovely treasures whenever I see them  :)

You did say you collect old patterns @LeilaMay  I have some old knitting patterns from around the 40's that belonged to my mother.  I've never needed them, my sister preferred to come up North and do a snatch and grab in Primark for her cheap children's clothes (they are now in their 30's), so would they be any good to you.  I've put off putting in the charity box as they do have sentimental value  but at some point in the future may just get chucked away.

If they are useful to you I shall be able to sort them out sometime in January when I have a sort out.  From memory they have been used a lot so not in pristine condition.

Sewing Machines / Re: Is my machine a bad design?
« on: November 25, 2020, 11:39:42 AM »
I think I'd be sewing wavy with that machine, it makes your eyes wander that wavy bit so yes I would say bad design.

It also gives the impression in the picture of a slope as well.  Is this Singer trying too hard?

In the wardrobe / Re: Wrap over jersey dress

I've got a three (well two, one ditched) made from an old Maggy London Butterick pattern, only they are faux wrap so you can adjust the fold over underneath piece to ensure nothing uncovered, only lost weight so now need a pin.

I've got another pattern not used because unsure of the tie factor on it. The old pattern was better, been in the charity bin once and got raked out again. It is very easy as well.

I would call that a super job.  Don't tell anybody you know though, as the requests will follow.

Sewing Machines / Re: Pfaff Ambition 620 - any thoughts as a P&Q machine?
« on: November 22, 2020, 10:34:46 AM »
Yes @Gernella  my Pfaff Passport 3.0 (Anyone want a beautiful lightweight machine for back up or classes???) needs you to raise and lower the presser foot which, now I'm used to The Splurgess, I find a pain.

The stitch quality however is second to none and it really is a beautiful stylish looking lil thing.

I've never had a machine that does that @Iminei so not that fussed when you've never had it.  What does get me is that different machines are in slightly different places, the Pfaff Select is in an odd position to the Expression, which is why I think you get to really love your main machine your brain is in tune with it.

I'm another one who uses arrows, usually on lining fabric because of course in the past I've mixed sides and also had one totally the wrong way round.  Which is why I have a nice  stitch ripper as my sidekick.

When my Pffaf Expression dies, I want the 610.  Being just a sewer the extra stitches and alpha were of no interest to me.

There is one review on Pattern Review (didn't look any further when came to this one).   Only a quick look but it had no pivot and she had to physically lift and lower the foot, which I found funny.

I can understand people getting a feel for their machines and I have the same feeling with my Expression, it's like putting an old pair of shoes on when I sit down.
