Title: Another new toy!
Post by: Bill on October 26, 2021, 23:19:36 PM
But I won't have it for a while. Meh!
I've bought a Brother Innov-is F440e embroidery machine. Then I got an email from the shop saying they were out of stock and were expecting some in 10 days. Aaarrggghhh! I hate waiting.

Shame about the wait, but we look forward to hearing more about it when you get it.

Blimey @Bill you are certainly increasing the stable.  Your talents are endless.

Have you won the lottery? Can you use an embroidery machine? What will you make with it ? Have you got room for it to be permanently out? Are you setting up in competition with EWM ( brand leaders in embroidered old women's clothing )?
We need to be told

Thank you @Gernella  :)
I'm a jack of all trades but I've never really excelled in anything. And compared to the talents of tsp members, I'm on the bottom rung of the totem pole  :)

@Lowena Sadly I have not won the lottery. I'm actually up to my eyeballs in debt with these machines. Pam's auntie Kelly lent the money for the 1800q and I'm about halfway through repaying that.
Pam's dad is lending me the money for the new toy. He said I could start paying when I've paid off Kelly. I've earned their trust ove the years  :) Plus, I'm not one for switching between interests. I tend to stick with them until life throws a spanner in the works.

Can I use it? Umm.........don't know but we'll soon find out  :D
Have I got room for it? Yep. Although it'll be directly in front of the bedroom window so it'll spend most of its life under cover.
Never heard of EWM. How do you know them???  ><

@Bill have you bought it online or bricks and mortar shop.  If a shop then get them to demo the machine.  They should show you how to set it up etc.
It’s a nice machine and I’m sure you’ll conquer it.
Lots of people on here have embroidery machines.  Word of advice is to RTFM before messing with it.

@Lowena
I think EWM have gone bust so Bill's going to take over.

@Ohsewsimple I bought it online.

I've requested they cancel the order and refund me. They said earlier that the 10 day stock update couldn't be promised due to difficulties with ports etc.
I can't be bothered sitting around waiting for something that might take weeks to get here. I haven't the patience for that.  :(

@Iminei if you or another mod could remove this entire thread please. It's pointless. Thanks.

@Bill Nooo, don't give up on it, you'll love it when it arrives!  Somewhere else may have one in stock.

Edit:  Tysew say they have them in stock - quick, order one!

Oh @Bill you are certainly not on the bottom rung of the totem pole, don't ever think that.  I've been sewing for over 60 years and I can still roll out an almighty cockup (now and again).

@Bodgeitandscarper I emailed them earlier asking to confirm they were in stock. No word as of yet.
If they do I still have 2 issues.
1: The refund I've had won't clear for a couple days.
2: The place I originally ordered from was selling them for £810 as in @Gernella s post. £945 might be a bit more than I can chew.

There may be a twinkle at the end of the tunnel. Waiting.

Wait over.

There's now a reboxed (ex demo maybe?) Brother Innov-Is 870SE due for delivery tomorrow.
Hoping nothing goes wrong this time.

Excellent!  Just google "in the hoop" bags now, never mind little drawstring bags

TADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
It's here! And it's brand spanking new! No idea why it was labeled as reboxed. Never been used.
And it works.......in spite of me getting halfway up the stairs with it and the handle ripping and watching it tumble back down the stairs!  :scream:

And I didn't even read the manual first  :D

Machines are sold as reboxed for a number of reasons.  Customer may have changed their mind or there was a fault and it’s been sent back.

Embroiders ok!

As for reading the manual I do recommend it.  One customer we had bought a Husqvarna Ruby, very expensive machine.  She didn’t bother to read the manual.  Took it out set it up, started sewing and heard a horrible noise.  Brought it back to us as faulty.  Engineer found that she hadn’t removed the pieces of plastic used to keep the arm of embroidery module from moving around.  Massive amounts of damage and not covered by the warranty obviously.

It's amazing what they can pull out of the storeroom when they've got you on the hook and don't want you to move elsewhere @Bill  mine was suddenly old stock they'd found and it certainly hadn't been reboxed, you can tell.

Looks very nice though, you have certainly got the talent for making things.

@Bill  :faints:  :boohoo: I want one but .......... I must be sensible, i sew in the lounge so i'd have to find a storage place for it and it's the sort of toy that needs to be out ready for use all of the time and if i'm really honest with myself, would i use it that much  knowing me it would be a 5 minute wonder  If i had a dedicated sewing space then no doubt i'd have one. Just enjoy it and we want to see ALL that you do with it  :loveit:

@Diane you do know that they make combined embroidery and sewing machines?   Just saying if space is a problem

@Ohsewsimple  Mmm i noticed that a few months back, i'm trying to be oh so sensible  I have the funds but just really don't know if i'd use it enough to justify the cost, i was looking at the brother innovis v5, it's on the back burner at the moment until i can make my mind up.

What would you embroider @Diane ?

OMGoodness! What an awful disaster!

When I order a new toy, the first thing I do after ordering it is to go online and find the manual to download and save to my files on my iPad. If it’s going to be a few days until arrival, I’ll start reading the manual in readiness. It’s part of the build up of excitement for me.  :|

I’ve just downloaded the manual for the new fridge freezer arriving to replace the old one in the utility. I’ll read through the installation instructions so I know how to set it up properly when it arrives. DH prefers the paper copies and he’s welcome to find somewhere to store them!

What would you embroider @Diane ?

That's exactly my point @Lowena

Yes you are right to think like that @Diane it is a lovely thing to have and great for a lot of people including @Bill  :loveit:Making personalised things often makes it easier to sell things but if that isn’t your aim I think it’s best to think hard.

I have a combination machine which I rarely use now but in the past it was essential for my job, I keep it because I have it and am still working occasionally. On a personal level I don’t have a need for the embroideries it does and anyway I do still like hand embroidery.

This of course is from the person who has toooo many hobby items

@Celia  You're absolutely right, i enjoy hand embroidery as well, if i bought an embroidery machine i know i would play with it but that's all it would be.....playing. Now if i had a sideline of making things that required embroidery and i could make some money then i would invest but i don't.

@Iminei tried selling handmade and embroidered items. It wasn't easy iirc

@Lowena You have to make a really niche product to make money
