Today... One thread per day / Re: Saturday 15th January

@Diane I'd also go for it!  We always fit our kitchens, bathrooms etc.  It might be worth getting somebody in for a design consultation (feigning an interest in getting whomever to install) as they use CAD software and may come up with ideas that you haven't thought of.

Can anybody suggest a source for this type of fastening, please?  it measures 12mm in diameter is black/chocolate brownish and is for a coat belonging to DD2.  We've both had a trawl  around the internet to no avail. Thank you :)

Fun with Fabric / Re: Questions about silk
« on: January 14, 2022, 16:49:49 PM »
Re cutting out; Single layer fabric. I use weights (mine are self made fabric pyramid type) and a rotary cutter. For smaller areas I use my serrated edge Ginghers.

Sorry, @SewRuthieSews I've just realised that you'd already posted the info about suitable fabrics yesterday

Embroidery Machines / Re: Craving an embroidery machine
« on: January 12, 2022, 19:47:26 PM »
Like others, my embroidery machine can sit for months not being used as can many other things in this house. I considered selling it last year but DH pointed out that I don't need to use it all the time as long as I enjoy it when I do use it. He has lots of fishing stuff, various bikes and cool tools that definitely aren't used regularly but he enjoys them when he does use them. I got round the issue of the cost of individual reels of thread that I never seemed to have in the correct colour by buying one of the three drawer sets

@annieeg my pattern arrived today and the suggested fabrics are viscose, silk, tencel, soft fine cottons such as lawn. I purchased the pattern purely for the blouse. I have some nice viscose that has been waiting patiently for a project.

I also use Gutermann sew-all in both needle and bobbin for piped bench cushions. It's never occurred to me to use anything else :D

@annieeg press F2 and a window with the tie-off and snips should come up on the screen. If a box is unshaded that means the function is not activated. To activate/de-activate these function s just press the OK button

@Diane I read your reply re your door camera and fabric deliveries to my DH. He thinks that's hilarious. I just have a monthly budget on our budget planner. It's named 'sewing guilt' .
@Iminei I hope you're now well recovered from your procedure. It sounds very much like the first one I had over 30 years ago and I had absolutely no idea what to expect. It didn't help that I had a stinking cold when it was done. I've had a few more since then and apart from the last one, when I had to drive, always opted for sedation. I find the throat spray makes me think I'm going to swallow my tongue and I don't like insert they use to hold your mouth open.

Thank you @SewRuthieSews and @Acorn.  I've just broken my pattern buying moratorium for 2022 :[ I did find a pound coin in DH's dirty jeans recently though 0_0

We have a daybed in what used to be my sewing room (DD2 now uses it as her office until her house sale/purchase are finalised).  It has a trundle underneath and converts to a super king size bed for visitors.

A Good Yarn / Re: WINTER SOCK KNIT ALONG
« on: December 22, 2021, 19:01:19 PM »
Love your socks @realale :D
My mum used to knit a lot but sadly she is no longer with us. (Quite emotional writing that even though she passed 25 years ago) Anyway, I have most of her knitting needles, which are the metal ones. I'm gradually buying new ones and opting for bamboo - mostly circulars as I find them very nice to knit with.
