Technical Help / Re: Matching fabric diagonals, trouser pattern

I love my Burda version but it's out of print. And there is still the marching problem at centre front and back.

Im thinking of Japanese cloth wraps instead of wrapping paper. At simplest, a an overlocked square big enough to wrap a present.

Francesca, as it is such a lovely fabric, can I suggest that you chose a pattern that suits you to start? It just seems a shame to be fiddling with a pattern that isn't right to start with. Especially as you will have enough on your hands just controlling this slithery fabric.

Catlar, is it the same as dobby? If so, where did you get it?

I love their whole timeless style look. I was talking to a stockist of their patterns, and we both agreed that,  to reach a wider audience, they need to show more women of different sizes and ages in their pictures on their site (made up patterns).
Their pattern workbook is a style inspiration, as well as a work of art in itself.

Publications / Re: Threads Magazine - June/July 2019 issue 203

I have many back copies of Threads, and wouldn't part with any.

If computers needed so much human intervention,  they wouldn't be so popular.

Acorn, I always make notes as I go along in pencil in the manual. Info for a single step is often spread across the manual. It was only after I got to grips with my Bernina 1300DA,  that I realised it was the manual from hell, not the machine.
Watching any online videos helps.

Rotary cutter- to sharpen,  you can fold a few layers of aluminium foil, put that on your rotary cutting board, then run the cutter up and down on it.

Publications / Re: Sewing magazine sold in the U.K.?
« on: June 04, 2019, 15:16:09 PM »
Burda is a monthly pattern magazine, so is Ottobre. I prefer Ottobre (it's less frequent) as it is more informal. You have to trace off from both.
Threads is an American magazine (quarterly I think) with sewing pattern reviews and technique articles. There are lots more aimed at younger beginner sewers, often containing patterns in envelopes.

Embroidery and Embellishment / Re: Sashiko update

Thanks Celia. Can you visit your friend and try out something small (like stitching on napkins) to get a feel of how much you would use it? It is a big, heavy, expensive machine.

Machine update- I set up my Babylock Sashiko machine yesterday, determined ro master it. Well, after three hours of making a dozen stitches then the thread  breaking,  I took a break and watched their demo. Tried again, longer run but still thread breaking. I am using the cheap polyester that works on all my orger machines. Any suggestions?

Saris, although they may be  a bit lightweight for what you want.

I am using scraps to make Boro fabric.
You can google pics. I also got out a library book on it called Wabi Sabi.
