Vintage Machines / Re: Anyone know what this is?
« on: May 22, 2019, 10:18:16 AM »
I think it is a Singer 128 (the 3/4 size version of a 127). There's an instruction book available on the Ismacs website, but this might be for an earlier model that doesn't have the tension release lever.

I think you can use standard needles with it but it takes long bobbins rather than round bobbins.

a huge box of bike bits which "might" turn into a bike!

Isn’t that bit like us buying FQs, charm packs, etc which might turn into a quilt?  :P

Would either of these Claire Schaeffer patterns be any good?

There’s also this Burda pattern that might adaptable to make double back vents.

This probably isn’t quite what you are looking for, but it a small scale print and cotton lawn:

@Iminei Will you have time in your class tomorrow for the pupils to check their ¼" seam allowances on some 2.5" squares (for example) before they start on their D9P blocks. It might save emergency maths later if they were to find their centre blocks didn't measure 4.5" finished.

Theo looks adorable in that outfit (and Lilya is quite sweet as well). Any idea what the next fancy dress request will be?

@Iminei It is not on BBC Scotland, it is on BBC1 Scotland. I'm not sure if the regional variations of BBC1 and BBC2 are available on iPlayer.

Edited: This is the link to the program on iPlayer. Hopefully it will become available once it has been broadcast.

Just to add to the confusion, I'd go for the black and grey spots. I think the juxtaposition of the shapes front and back would work well and it would allow the quilting to shine.

BTW Does anyone know what machine shes using ???
It all looks very 25th century, pared down steampunk basics ... Nice tho'
She’s a brand ambassador for Husqvarna Viking and I think the chunky needle threader to the left of the needle is from a Designer Epic. Definitely not a pared down machine!

I wonder if each square is made of four identical  blocks. I’ve tried to sketch how they would be joined to make the square, but you might have to try various widths to see which looks best.

Brother and Husqvarna call it a “free motion guide grip”.

These sounds like the sort of things that would be used for dance, where different fabrics in matching colours are required. Perhaps someone from the dancewear side of things could recommend suppliers.

538
What about getting it printed using one of the online fabric printing places?

Prinfab do swatches (20 x 20 cm) for £2.95 or fat quarters for £10-12 (depending on fabric).
Woven Monkey also offer swatches (£2.50 plus P&P) and fat quarters (£11-12).

Other UK suppliers are listed on the Sewing Directory.

Well done @Iminei  and @Sandra for coming up with a solution to the badly written pattern.

At this rate there will no mystery to the murder - the pattern writer will have been murdered in the sewing room by a disgruntled quilt maker with a rotary cutter.

I came across the Bernina workbooks (while looking for information on old Bernina feet) and the first two of the sewing machine books might be of interest to you. The instructions won't exactly match your machine, but I'm sure you could find the equivalent stitches.
