Fun with Fabric / Re: Memory hole

Wow that was quick, thanks Sandra! I’m also wrestling with my rotting brain to come up with the name of that stuff you can do machine embroidery over, then wash away, leaving a net of stitches. Wash Away?

Fun with Fabric / Memory hole
« on: February 26, 2024, 09:17:48 AM »
I need to order some more of that stuff used for appliqué that’s a glue layer between two sheets of paper, and the name of it and where I ordered it from last time has vanished in the brain fog. It’s a thermal glue layer, you iron one side onto your motif, rip off the paper, and iron it onto its placement. Can anyone whose grey cells are still working this morning help? Boy do I hate memory fades.  :( Thanks in advance.

Embroidery and Embellishment / Free Motion Embroidery

This is a long shot. Some years ago I watched a YouTube of a man, I think Indian, using a straight stitch industrial machine to produce amazing free motion work. I wanted to watch this again, but have lost the link. Does this ring any bells with anyone by any chance?  :D

It’s certainly normal for me @Tamnymore. It’s as well I am not near a pound a metre store, I don’t need tempting.

Tissus de reve are having a flash sale until 30th. I get quite a bit of stuff from them by mail order. I think they’re based in Paris, but do post to the U.K. if anyone is interested. My problem is that once on their site I overestimate what I can get made up, it lies around in that ever growing stash.

Who in the U.K. or Europe might carry a terrific selection of open ended zips?

Thanks for all the replies ladies, I think I will give them a go. They seem to have a few things I am after, velvet and corduroy mainly.

I was browsing for corduroy and came across this company. There prices seem reasonable and they have delivery to Europe. Has anyone ordered from them.

Your Favourite Suppliers / Good place for nice buttons (Europe)

Just got some really nice buttons from Mathilda.store in Bonn. Very quick service. I’m in Europe so I don’t know how it would be for U.K. residents, but there was no postage.

I need a wardrobe cull, same reasons as @realale. I’ve been putting this off for ages. As for using nice clothes at home, I would need a couple of those dinner lady overalls and a boiler suit. In fact an honest appraisal of lifestyle would prioritise cover ups.

You’ve got a beautiful colour theme going there, well done finding prints that work so well.

In the wardrobe / Re: taking apart a dress for a pattern

Taking apart an old bodice will work. Just keep a beady eye of the grain. Often this gets distorted when clothes are worn, and you need to squidge the fabric back into the shape it had when it was cut out to get the pattern right. If the garment is not going to be worn you can pull a thread on the warp and weft to see where it has distorted.

I like the skirt, but do I have the waist for that style now?
