This idea popped up on fb this week so I thought I'd give it a go. I have allocated a colour to each temperature range and am knitting two rows of garter stitch every day in the colour that corresponds with the maximum temperature for the day. So far, its very blue but I think today may be lavender! At the end of each month, I am going to do two rows of black or perhaps grey.
-
I like the look of these but am doing a mitred square one at present and can't cope with two.
I like your colours Pearl, how many stitches have you chosen?
-
I did a mitred square one first. <3
I'm using a circular needle and have about 200 stitches (I didn't count). I'm looking forward to seeing how the pattern develops over the year.
-
so if it turns really cold you need to buy more blue or do you have a suitable wool stash :wool: :wool: :wool:
-
I've bought wool of each colour, more balls for the middle range colours.
-
It's a lovely idea for a blanket! I hope it doesn't all end up blue though 0_0
-
Oh wow, what a wonderful project! can't wait to see how it goes :)

Ha, ha, me too!
Not too late to join in, LeilaMay. I'm using the Accuweather website for the temperature.
-
I have just finished a blanket, and I'm now knitting stripey socks with all my part balls :)
"I may be some time. . . "
insert knitting icon :)

Oh, just read this as 'Temperance blanket'. Perhaps if you knit a row every time you are tempted to have a drink?

Then it wouldn't take a year to finish, tandt. :D
-
Love this idea Pearl, hope you get to warm colours soon, although I do love blues and lavenders (and all the other colours on the spectrum!)
I'm struggling to pick the needles up atm, post Christmas inertia perhaps?

As a family that live by the weather... farming will do that for you ...DH  would like additional information in a blanket as well as temperature he would like rain ice snow and wind recorded as well.... :fish:
@Jessie... Rabbit season will soon be upon us :*

Better start now Jessie....
sorry about the thread swerve Pearl
-
I've done one duck body, and have several bunny body parts leftover from last year. The mojo, unfortunately, is not registering the urgency..... :S
Having difficulty resuming my usual routing this year. I think it's because I forgot to take my knitting with me on holiday.
Must buck up!!

sorry about the thread swerve Pearl
No worries, Vege; it's usually me doing the swerving.
Looking forward to seeing the Jemimas, Jessie. I like the idea of knitted toys but know I'd never sew them up. :P
-
I love this idea! I might try this when I crochet another Afghan blanket but first I have to finish the one I started two years ago!

Not getting any warmer yet. :(
-
Pretty though - and it's definitely going to warm up after today!

It has stopped snowing. :)

I wondered what on earth a 'temperature blanket' was, and finally clicked on this thread to see...(I don't do knitty yarn crochet stuff :wool: ).
This is lovely. :) I really like this idea and I'll keep popping in to see how it's going.
Yes. It's looking very pretty.

Yesterday was a pale green day. Woo hoo! Spring is on the way. :flower: :flower: :flower:
-
In case you haven't been out, today it has been very cold. :D
-
Gosh, it (blanket) is very 'cool' so far isn't it? I'm looking forward to seeing it go (soon please) into the warmer shades! I think this is such a great idea, I may do one myself!
-
@Pearl just wondering if you are still doing your blanket - and is it completely blue?!
-
Look, @Fiona M , it's getting warmer.
Yes, @sewingj , I'm still going. Look, I think it was Summer last Wednesday. :D I'm hoping to put the blue away for a while.
-
At last! The bright stripe signifying the recent brief heatwave is wonderful! :D
Good job you don't live up here, it's still brass monkeys!
-
Spoke too soon. Back to blue. :wool:
-
Hows the blanket doing Pearl?
Should have a few brighter colours now. :wool:
-
What a great idea!
-
Yes, let's see that lovely big four day hot stripe!
-
You know this will jinx the hot spell, don't you?
-
Are you still working on your blanket Pearl?
-
Yes, @Fiona M , although I am a few days behind. June has been very boring so far - all yellow (2 shades). I'll post a pic at the weekend when it will be half finished.
-
Spoke too soon. It's suddenly turned orange. May be red tomorrow.
-
How much RED does it have now?
-
Not as much as it should. Too hot to knit. :D
-
Dilemma - I don't like the orange or the red. :( I knew I didn't before I started but I already had those yarns so thought I would save a few pennies.
Should I:-
a) carry on
b) undo to the end of April and replace the red and orange
C) undo to the end of June and replace the red?
-
Option C.
Will you replace it with
a. a 'nicer' red
b. a stronger orange
c. a deeper orange
d. something else?
0_0
-
I like the colours as they are
-
The yellow / orange is fine but to my eyes the 'red' looks a bit pink. If it was mine I would replace the red.
-
I like it as it is, because the colours represent the temperatures experienced and will be bordered either side by the cooler colours of winter/spring & autumn/winter.
Agree with Francesca, I think you’ll like it when it’s finished.
-
Thank you. I'll carry on and hope it gets cooler soon. :)
-
I'm working on one for the first year of my granddaughter's life. For each row I'm using two strand together- one strand for the low temp and one for the high temp.
-
Agree with @Francesca & @Fiona M. It is what it is, and will soon be framed with those cooler colours. I admire your persistence, a project lasting a whole year would have been long since abandoned here!
-
That sounds lovely, @WendyW . Do you have a pic? :)
Guess what I've done? Don't you hate it when people ask for advice and then ignore it? I tried replacing the red as @Ploshkin suggested but the orange was still too neon. Now Jaffa has been replaced with Spice, it's almost May and I'm a happy Pearl.
-
I've got back to the point I was at before I undid it. Am currently enjoying a heatwave. 0_0
Will post pic tomorrow.
-
Here's the pic.
-
I’m still working on it. Am in the middle of November so nearly there.
-
Oh good, I had been wondering too!
-
That's looking lovely, @Pearl .
It's nice to look at it and understand the meaning of it.
-
It's December!
-
Well done you... can't wait to see it
-
5...4....3....2....1...
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
It's the end of 2018!
Pics tomoz.
-
Can't wait.... that was a looonnng 2018 ;)
-
Quick! Kiss somebody! :*
-
@wrenkins why??????? -<
-
Happy New Year!!!! :*
-
Hmmm... @wrenkins you obviously have a better time at NY than I have ever done - I've never kissed anyone ( or been kissed ) even though we always stay up and have been married for 48yrs :D :D
-
Pics, Pics, Pics, Pics, We want Pics!!!!
-
Here it is. It's still on the pins as I am going to give it a border (but happily it doesn't need quilting or binding!). When I lay it out, DD, who claimed the last blanket I knitted, asked, "Am I going to have this one as well?"
-
Oh gosh, that's gorgeous. I didn't really realise how effective it would look ( and such neat knitting too ;) ) I'm not surprised it's been claimed already and it'll be great to have a quilt to compare it too.
Clever girl <3
-
How cool (and hot) is that?
Gorgeous! :loveit:
-
Are'nt you supposed to rush out and kiss a chimney sweep?
-
A chimney sweep? Never heard that before @Greybird. I wouldn't kiss mine if he was the last one left. I'll just stay indoors and kiss my own dirty midden thank you. 0_0
-
Wow, thats fab!
-
That really is beautiful!!
-
Thanks, all. I was worried it would be too long and narrow, but it's wider than I thought.
Now to sew the ends in. That'll take the rest of the year.
-
It's fabulous. And look how hot it got there about August/Septemer time.
I do like this idea. I'm going to put it on my list of potentials.
-
Fabulous stuff darling ... 1 row per day???
Gorgeous!
-
It's fabulous! It seems ages since I said 'let's hope it's not all blue', and then look what happened! :D
-
2 rows a day, @Iminei , so that there is a right side and a wrong side.
@Fiona M , you can see when I went on my hols :) and the week I was shut in a classroom with 30 8-year-olds :(.
-
It's a wonderful reminder of the year.
I can also see when the 'Beast from the East' arrived. Hope it's not like that again this year or next week will be white :ninja:
-
Oh wow, what a beautiful blanket!
-
As I am collecting the temperatures for the temp quilt sewalong and have some left over wool, I thought I'd knit mini temperature blanket strips for the local Blankets for the Homeless pod. There are only 33 stitches. Last year, 14th April was the first citron day. This year, it was 15th Feb. Crazy weather.
