Title: Pattern cutting for bras
Post by: Missie on July 28, 2021, 21:51:52 PM
I am fed-up of not being able to easily buy bras, and when I can they are generally something not very pretty and you need a mortgage to buy them.  I'm therefore thinking about having a go at making my own.  Patterns seems in short supply for smaller bands larger cup (32G UK size) so I am now thinking about learning to cut my own patterns.  I've requested details on the London college of fashion short course but can anyone recommend a good online course (pattern cutting, not making) and good pattern cutting books.

I know exactly what I want in a bra, just not how to do it.

Thanks.

I think your best bet is Beverly Johnson.  She has Craftsy classes and looks like she has just released a book on drafting and design.  I have her other two books on cd which are excellent.   Also have her Craftsy classes.

Ooh I’d forgotten, I’d got her classes on crafts before it went defunct. I’m not sure what is happening the new set-up. I think I downloaded it so I’ll have to have a little look-see. Thanks for the hint and re her book

Porcelynne (https://porcelynne.com) - patterns for a good range of sizes and her drafting book is excellent. There is a Facebook support group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1110701909115038) also.

Definitely Beverly Johnson - are her classes still on Crafty's successor Bluprint?

Also Margreet from Merckwaerdigh.  Explore her blog/website

and also her Etsy shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/merckwaerdigh?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Search_UK_DSA_GGL_Categories_Crafts_Ext&utm_ag=Patterns&utm_custom1=_k_CjwKCAjwo4mIBhBsEiwAKgzXOCLLsWXDIGXiRElZUKOhc5PyBaRxI1VLqApyet7Vitu9GC-yBsA-0xoCZsIQAvD_BwE_k_&utm_content=go_10036920219_100220755919_473250515672_aud-1184048147899:dsa-402743135162_c_&utm_custom2=10036920219&gclid=CjwKCAjwo4mIBhBsEiwAKgzXOCLLsWXDIGXiRElZUKOhc5PyBaRxI1VLqApyet7Vitu9GC-yBsA-0xoCZsIQAvD_BwE)

Pattern Cutting for Lingerie, Beachwear and Leisurewear by Ann Haggar might be worth a look

I’ve got this one @HenriettaMaria and I wouldn’t recommend it for bra making.
