Patterns Discussion / Asking the impossible
« on: November 15, 2021, 17:32:29 PM »
A couple of weeks ago i came across a blouse/shirt PDF pattern and forgot to book mark it and now i cannot find it again. It is a button up loose fitting blouse/shirt with drop shoulders and long sleeves, it has a back yoke and the back panel has a pleat in it.
It definitely not a big four, Style Arc or Merchant and Mill (my usual go to patterns) nor is it the Gilbert from Helens Closet.

Anyone come across anything like this?

Sorry forgot to say i have also looked at everything on the FoldLine.

Patterns Discussion / Would the pics inspire you?

Came across NH Patterns on Etsy but have you seen the mismatched checks? Now i am not normally one to criticise but one of my bug bears is checks and tartan that do not match up. Really doesn't inspire me to buy the patterns. dress and trousers

Fun with Fabric / Polished cotton
« on: September 09, 2021, 17:25:11 PM »
I have just received a new McCalls shirt dress pattern and one of the suggested fabrics is polished cotton. I have googled and now know that it is a shiny cotton but that is it. Has anyone come across any? Is it just an American term? It isn't mentioned in my Vogue A-Z of fabrics (but it is very old).

In the wardrobe / Catching up, again!
« on: August 10, 2021, 17:23:32 PM »
I must try and post what i have made when i make it rather than bore you to death with my catchups, but here goes with my panic sews before i went away.

First is a couple of Style Arc Autumn dresses, i have had this pattern for quite a while so decided to give it a go. When you read the reviews they all mention the back pleat and how confusing it is. On first inspection it did look rather confusing and i did ponder long and hard over it. I decided to colour code the markings rather than try and follow the letters and this worked a treat. If you decide to make it don't try and follow the diagram, it doesn't work.

Second is a simple wrap skirt using vintage curtain fabric by Habitat, originally designed for the V&A. I have had this for about 40 years, it was a piece left over from some trousers I made in my early 20’s.

The other 2 skirts are from a McCalls pattern, basically 2 rectangles with pleats but I have added side seam pockets and put in a centre back seam for the zip.

Patterns Discussion / Style Arc Talulah Dress.

Has any one made this  dress but using a woven fabric? If so what alterations did you do i.e drop armcyle, go up a size, obviously i would need to put some sort of closure in the back.

Fun with Fabric / double gauze help
« on: May 31, 2021, 17:56:31 PM »
First time i have used this fabric, still not sure about it but that's another story. Anyway, the question is: can you use interfacing on the fabric, will it just not squash all the bubbly bit flat? And what type of interfacing would you use, woven, stretch or the bog standard stuff?
Plus i thought this type of fabric was opaque but with the light behind it you can see straight through it.

Does anyone have any small pieces of rib i can buy? They are for the neckline of M&M woven T-shirt. They need to be 10mm wide and long enough to round the neckline. Any colour is ok but i do already have purple.

Sewing Machines / Pfaff and small sized needles
« on: May 12, 2021, 09:24:23 AM »
Does anyone else have a Pfaff (QE4) that will not take a small needle? I am sewing with chiffon and really need a size 8 needle but no matter how tight the screw is it will not stay in the shaft. Is it the machine or have i got a dodgy pack of needles. They are Schmetz so not a cheap brand. I don't have any trouble with other sizes and have had to end up using a size 10 which is not ideal.

Fun with Fabric / Lining suggestions please.

I have this fabric that i will make a skirt or dress from but it is light weight and with the light behind it, see through. It will need lining but not sure what to use. I definitely don't want poly/satin in any shape or form. I have looked for a plain light weight swiss cotton but to no avail, it all seems to be dotted. I did have a full roll bought many moons ago from my local shop, now closed, and have used the last of it. Any ideas please.

Craft World have 5 downloadable dress patterns, you have to register on the site before you can access them but it cost nothing and there is a lot of info on the site across all craft areas. here
