Events / Quiltfest 2019
« on: February 08, 2019, 20:10:09 PM »
We made it to Llangollen today in spite of the bad weather early on. There are some lovely quilts, superb work - I just wish I had the inspiration and imagination of some of the exhibitors. If you want traditional quilts then this isn't for you as all the quilts or most of them are modern designs. However down at the museum in the town the exhibits are a bit more traditional but they are all a take on Helen Howe's quilt. The instructions were serialised in The Quilter magazine and Helen's original quilt was also there.
Parking is free at the Pavilion and you can walk down into town - takes about 5 minutes. There are plenty of places to eat so if you are able to then why not pay Quitfest a visit (£2 donation).

A big thumbs up. At the end of last week I ordered a couple of lengths of fabric, one was advertised as 1.6mtrs of scuba. This was a one off piece but when it came it was 2.2 mtrs, no complaints from me, I may have to reconsider what I'm going to make now I have an extra half a metre.

Patterns Discussion / DF strikes again
« on: July 24, 2018, 17:13:59 PM »
Several months ago following recommendations from Demented Fairy I bought the Flat Bottom Flo, Style Arc pattern. I've been meaning to make it up since then and following a visit to Abakhan when I bought some scuba I made a pair today. I used the overlocker, what a quick and easy pattern. They are so comfortable, the only drawback is that they are purple - I thought the fabric was a dark blue  ><but never mind they will be well worn.

I just wondered who will be around and when. I'm hoping to go on the Thursday with a sewing friend. That is the best day for us especially as the M6 turns into a car park on Friday afternoon so getting home would be a nightmare and weekends aren't good for either of us.

Machine Accessories / Pintuck foot tutorial
« on: June 10, 2018, 18:19:36 PM »
I had an e-mail from SoSewEasy today and this was part of it. I've read quite a bit and it looks useful. I've got a pintuck foot that came with my machine but never used it. After reading this I might give it a go.

Patterns Discussion / Love Style Arc
« on: June 01, 2018, 17:24:15 PM »
When we were on holiday last year I saw someone wearing a dress that I liked as it looked really comfortable. The nearest I could find was
https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/adeline-dress/
so I went to Abakhan and bought some linen look fabric and I've finished it today. It's as comfortable as it looks on the pattern, if I make another I will make it slightly longer but it was easy to make, all the pieces went together well. Sorry no pics as it's dark navy so detailing won't show up anyway.

Current Projects / A finished UFO
« on: February 08, 2018, 13:14:31 PM »
At last, this has been sitting in a box for at least two and a half years waiting for me to do something with it. Inspired by a photo in a book
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jelly-Roll-Quilts-Perfect-Making-ebook/dp/B005CRRWH0/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1518095251&sr=1-5&keywords=jelly+roll+quilting+books
this one I think, it looked fresh and clean and I had a blue jelly roll stashed away, I made the top. So it must have been started over three years ago :| Well it's finally finished, quilted with simple straight lines and now put away with others until I decide to use it (probably in the summer) as a bed cover when it's too warm for the  duvet - well we live in hope. Very easy to do as it is only squares and rectangles.
Ooops forgot the picture.

Events / Quiltfest Llangollen
« on: February 07, 2018, 13:57:40 PM »
If anyone is near Llangollen the Quiltfest is now on
http://www.quiltfest.org.uk/
I knew nothing about this until I met some ladies at FOQ 18months ago, I went last year with DH and really enjoyed it. The room had a couple of exhibitions, quite a few entries from abroad and some stunning work. Non were the size of a bed, more like wall hangings. There was a smaller exhibition at the local museum - these were miniature works - again well worth a look. I'm hoping to go again this year, don't know when but it is on for a month. Well worth a visit if you aren't too far away.

For anyone interested an email popped into my inbox this morning for a warehouse clearance sale at Abakhan, sorry I can't send the link, not sure why. :( I've had a look and resisted temptation but I do like some of the satin backed crepe ;)

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / I leave you for two weeks
« on: September 14, 2017, 16:58:37 PM »
I don't know, I leave you for two weeks and what happens ? Not only is there the September BOM but also a group quilt, a quilt for TSP Bear and FoQ 2018. I've been able to log in sporadically while we've been away but I've only got PAYG phone and t'internet in the hotel didn't always play nicely. I got a gist of what was going on but I couldn't see photos, attachments etc - frustrating. Now the holiday sewing is out of the way I've got a lot of catching up to do. Please don't come up with any more ideas - great as they are. Where did we go? - Rhodes, very hot.
