I rarely follow the exact sequence of steps in a pattern.  It was drummed into me by an outstanding teacher that the neckline, and any other appropriate curved bits, should be taped/stay-stitched immediately after coming off the cutting table, before any significant handling. It surprises me how many patterns tell you to to complete several other procedures (darts, shoulder seam etc) on the bodice first, and only tell you to stay stitch neckline just before working on it. By that time it has probably already stretched and the damage has been done. (Definitely never try it on until stay stitching is done!)

I smiled at you saying ‘want’ not ‘need’. If honest, if would have to apply a ‘want’ to all of my machine exchanges. I say go for it!
A couple of years ago I changed my Bernina for a Babylock which I absolutely love and would recommend if within your budget. There was nothing wrong with the Bernina but I was lusting after air threading, LED lighting  and automatic tension which are fantastic. (Bernina now also now do these features).
I justified it by citing my arthritic hands and failing eyesight  :laughing:

I made the mistake of putting it in the tumble dryer on its initial wash which caused some piling. It was still wearable and I don’t think it has got any worse since then. It’s easy to sew with and doesn’t run. It doesn’t have a lot of lengthways stretch. It is nice, just don’t tumble dry!

My grandchildren all  love my PJs because I always add extra depth to the crotch to make sure they don’t ‘cut up the middle’ and are extra comfy. All of the available commercial patterns seem to be extra generous widthways and I reduce that a bit. We are used to bought ones being slim cut for fabric economy. Give me loose!

I’m not sure that cutting duplicate pattern pieces will help. The idea of using the piece you have already cut is that you can align the plaid pattern all around the edge of it.

Forgot to add that this method will only help get your two fronts and backs to looking in line with each other. You will still need to think about matching on the side seams before cutting, by matching fabric at a side notch/hem etc.

I suggest you cut each piece single thickness.  Then place the cut pieces over the top of the fabric in suitable alignment, using them as the pattern to cut the second piece. I have tried cutting them double and the result is always disappointing!

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Bernina Embroidery Module for sale

Would anyone like an embroidery module which is compatible with slightly older Berninas? It is in perfect working order and has been lightly     used with a 580 and the older style 570. It is also compatible with a number of other models.  I now have a new machine and have bought a later compatible module.

Hoops are not included as I have decided to keep them to supplement the new module. Embroidery foot #26, computer cable and carrying case are included.

As any purchaser would need to already have or acquire hoops, all I am asking is £50 including shipping in original box (mainland UK), or £30 if collected from Warwick.

If your experience is anything like mine you won’t be stitching continuously for that long anyway. You will be stopping to change the thread, fix thread breaks, change broken needle, sort jams and find the bits and pieces you thought were right there. Timing also depends on your speed. I go faster in some parts but slowing down in more dense areas is usually a good plan.
