In the wardrobe / Remember the smelly scuba i bought
« on: October 06, 2018, 18:59:32 PM »
Well after several washes and being left under the sewing table for about 5 months I decided to do something with it. It still whiffs a bit but the jacket is only to chuck on when walking the dogs so I am hoping the fresh air will get rid of the smell a bit more.

Hope this is in the right place.
I have come across this Australian mag that has free downloadable patterns. There are some nice patterns here, not your usual freebies.

Patterns Discussion / Pattern Lab review
« on: September 28, 2018, 18:12:53 PM »
After having a few mishaps this year with garments I have made I decided to go back to basics and draft some new blocks as it was a while since I did mine.
I came across this site via Threads Magazine and decided to give it a go, thinking it must be easier than drafting your own.
You have to take precise measurement to create your own profile and there is a measurement sheet that you can download here.
You then enter your measurement to create the blocks. so far so good
However the programme works on a reliable standard range and when you start to input your measurement if they don't fall within the range you get a warning message that the block either cannot be made or will produce an unusual block.

So if you are a standard size you will find this easy to use and get ready made blocks. Me, i am not standard, it tells me my back width and waist is greater than they should be, my hips are smaller than they should be and waist to knee is too short, tell me something i didn't know. So i won't be spending £7.99 on blocks i then have to start altering.

What i did find usefull was to take all my measurments as it has been a while since i last did this and with this info i will draft my own blocks.

Fun with Fabric / Help finding fabric
« on: September 25, 2018, 17:30:48 PM »
Have spent hours looking for a chestnut wool/mix to make a jacket. I can find lots of different browns but none the rich chestnut colour of a fresh conker. Tried all the usual Minerva, Higgs/Higgs, Stofil, I want fabric, Fabworks etc. but to no avail.
Has anyone come across any?

Has anyone used this site to make pattern blocks? I cannot find any mention of charges and don't want to go through the palaver of putting all my measurements in only to find they charge mega bucks when you get to the checkout.

Help, I need a couple of small pieces of sequined fabric to make The Diva her latest dance costume. I need some red to make a clip on tie and black to make some straps. I would think 1/4 metre of each would do. Does any one have any I can buy? if not it means having to buy 1/2 of each from the shop.

The Haberdashery / Buttons
« on: September 20, 2018, 18:16:14 PM »
:button: OK I know we have had conversations before about never having the right size/amount/colour of button in your stash for your garment. I have just made a shirt for you now who and no, I don't have enough buttons.
So why do we keep a stash of odd buttons? In all the years I have been sewing I have never needed just the odd 1 or 2 buttons so why do I have so many? Why am I keeping them? :button: :button: :button:

Mixed media performance artist Harriet Riddell (who specialises in observational drawings) will be cycling along 22 miles of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, between Pendle and Blackburn from 1-6 September. She will invite you to jump on her cycle and pedal to generate power for her sewing machine whilst she "paints" your portrait in stitches.
