maybe that's not the quilt I want to do, or I need to change the colour scheme.

@SewRuthieSews What attracted you to the design in the first place? Was it the colours used or the actual pattern? It sometimes helps to rough out the block in different colours and see if you still like it. Putting light and dark in different places changes the look and leads to new ideas (and a whole new rabbit hole). If you've got mainly pinks, purples, blues and greens, and that's the colour scheme you want, why not go for it?

@Iminei I don't recall it bowing - I made it quite a while ago. Pressing the seams to butt and pins probably. Or luck. I no longer have it, it is on long-term/permanent loan, but I visit it regularly and it's nice to see it used.

@Acorn Thank you. And of course some of the lights are mediums, and some of the darks are mediums, just as long as you remember which were which...

@Iminei I took all the bits I had, plus cutting a strip (or 2) off anything that had already been cut into, and made 2½ inch squares. I put lights in one box and darks in the other, and sewed pairs together, then split the heap again and sewed into sets of 4, and so on until I had 32 strips made of 36 squares*, then I put then together, and found something to make a border. I cadged the bright green off a friend.

*1152 squares :faints:

@Bill Perhaps you should get a job with Bernina as a product tester. If Bill can't break it... (and he better not!)

If anyone is interested in swapping/acquiring scraps, despite my recent efforts I still have a box of bits, and I'm getting sick of the sight of them. Mostly strips, some triangles and squares , a couple of larger pieces and some orphan blocks. Any takers?

I have lots of scraps and remainders of jelly rolls, I intend to clear a big plastic box, chuck everything in and take it from there.

@Ellabella That sounds like an excellent plan!

This is what happens when you do that

I fancy trying a scrappy quilt but no idea how to do one.

@WildAtlanticWay Cut fabric into pieces, sew it back together - as artistically or tastelessly as you like ;)

@Bill Enjoy, but read the b****y instructions. I have used one of these. It requires firm but respectful handling. Once you get to know it, it will do everything you want (sewingwise ;)). Put the screwdrivers away. You do not need them.

(Still haven't got the finger wagging icon...)

@Mr Twingo  please can we have one ... also a smilie with a loud hailer please

As previously recommended here https://thesewingplace.org.uk/index.php/topic,11046.0.html - but it was a while ago so you would have had to dig to find it.
Very good price, and my order came within 24 hours too.

@AnthonyExmouth You could try telling her that you're buying it for you, but she can borrow it. ;)

@Celia @realale I agree, you have to like your machine. I had (still have) a semi-mechanical Pfaff. I upgraded after many years to a PfaffQE4, when they first came out. I did not get on with it at all, and after a while decided it had to go. I was looking at the Janome Horizon, which was being drummed up at the time, but also tried out a Bernina 550QE - and that was the one I settled on. I looked at the 570 when it first came out, but decided the 550 did all I needed. I have used a 570, and it was okay, but seemed a bit 'over helpful'. A friend had one, and didn't get on with it at all - I believe she is selling it. I think you have to go and play with various machines and not be distracted with all the bells and whistles but find the one that feels right and does what you want it to do without making a drama of it.

A Good Yarn / Re: AUTUMN SOCK KNIT ALONG. 2023 New

@Ohsewsimple
Having had poor results with 'average size' I got this book. Lots of explanation on fitting, and knitting top down or toe up, and some patterns, though having tried some out (quite successfully) I now stick to plain style and let variegated yarn provide the patterning (Opal or Regia yarns come out well)
