I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / A new Vlog
« on: July 01, 2020, 23:37:01 PM »
I stumbled across this site at the weekend when I was looking for something to sew by. There seems to be a dearth of good programmes to listen to on R4, R4 Extra and podcasts at the moment.  She has loads of experience, lives in Ireland, so is lovely to listen to, and has a wealth of knowledge. More importantly I can't be tempted by some of the shops she mentions for fabrics.
I particularly like how she describes in detail amendments she's made to make the garment fit and I can learn about the Irish sewing community. Some of her vlogs are with a fabric shop owner pal.

Patterns Discussion / Butterick Patterns Half Price
« on: March 13, 2020, 19:33:17 PM »
I've never known so many half price pattern offers in UK.
I've managed to keep my list in tact, but I found out first at Jaycotts.

The Haberdashery / Recycled Thread - Sustainable sewing
« on: January 24, 2020, 23:44:19 PM »
Is recycled thread the future?
I have too many threads to consider changing at the moment, but this article looks interesting.
Unfortunately there isn't anything about the longevity - washing and wear.
Has anyone used recycled thread?
One thing's for sure, old thread brought from a charity shop is only useful for tacking.

I haven't listened to this all yet, but there are lots of tips.

Cant remember how much giggling there is.
Episode 106 Susan Khalje is worth a listen too. Not much giggling if any with this one.

Till 1 September.
Classic styles with interesting drafting. The pieces don't always fit properly, and instructions sometimes require interpretation,  but i enjoyed making the Milena top.... eventually. The toile fit me well and was easy to adapt to my body shape.  They are all pdfs.

Patterns Discussion / MCCall Autumn Pattern
« on: August 10, 2019, 17:32:39 PM »
Have been released here
Some interesting designs. M8003 and M8006 could have been in one envelope, seeing as they have been styled together. Butterick did that a couple of years ago I remember. So annoying.

Have been released.
There seems to be a focus on coats. This Rachel Comey jumpsuit looks interesting. Can anyone explain how the left leg might be constructed?

Publications / Love to Sew Podcast

I look forward to listening to this podcast weekly. Most of the episodes are interesting. This week's episode is especially good. Ever heard of a seam stick?  Needle board? But also talks about handstitching, so has wide appeal I think.
