Access All Accessories / Re: Gift bags
« on: April 09, 2020, 11:15:27 AM »
@snoozi soozi, love your pattern. Cute bags.

Here is another pattern. The size that is in the tutorial is the one I use the most. I do have the pattern for the other sizes.

Here it is where I used cording rather than ribbon. I have done the ribbon when making them as gift bags. This one is used to hold DGS's diabetic supplies.

A Good Yarn / Re: Unfinished objects... UFOs
« on: April 06, 2020, 12:47:20 PM »
I don't have any UFO's in the knitting department. I do knit daily testing doll patterns. That keeps me busy and on a timeline. If the pattern testing slows down, I will get out some of my other yarn and knit up a few items and put in a bin for gifts later on.

Another sweater is done. Jennie is modeling it for me this time.

I quite like the asymmetrical front on this one and I put a bigger button on to make that feature the focus. I also used a different yarn for testing for this designer and it worked out perfectly.

Such a lovely thing to do. I'm sure they will be well appreciated by new mom's who weren't prepared for an early baby.

I haven't bought since the beginning of March. All fabric stores are closed. My favorite one is doing drive by. You email or mail what you want and pay by credit card and it gets put in your car when you're notified to pick it up. This month will probably be no purchases.

I cut out 9.25 meters of fabric and sewed 6+ meters. I stalled on the burlap Christmas tree skirt. The burlap started to fray so I need an underlining of the same color or a shade lighter. The ruffle is cut, roll hemmed, and gathered waiting for me to finish it.

Including the skirt, I have sewn 30.95 meters in the first quarter of this year. I'm hoping I get 90 meters sewn up this year.

Thank you @wrenkins and @sewingj for the kind words on the doll's sweater and hat.

I'm almost half done another sweater for the dolls and have another one on the list to be tested afterwards.

Another sweater tested and I kind of like this one. I'm slow at fair isle knitting but it got done.

And the hat.

Thank you @sewingj  and @Tamnymore for the kind words on the doll clothes.

The buttonhole saga began when I wanted to do more of them on doll clothes. I interfaced the buttonhole area and did 6 practice buttonholes. They were okay. I then decided to try tear away stabilizer as I have a lot of scraps as I do machine embroidery. I put it on the back of the fabric and the next few trials were perfect. You could use coffee filters instead of tear away stabilizer. I always do a few practice buttonholes before I do the actual ones. That way I get the right size buttonhole for the buttons.

Next up is invisible zippers in doll dresses. That won't happen until the fabric stores reopen. I have very few zippers on hand. If the stores don't reopen by April 1, I'm going to have to break down and order online.

And the Bib Front Regency dress is done. It was a lot of work but I took it one step at a time.

The fabric frayed a lot so I had to handle it carefully. But I do love the pattern.

@Celia, I don't hence why I bought 9 dolls. They keep me busy.

@b15erk, now's a great time to add some dolly knitting and sewing.

The mittens got put on hold as 2 patterns arrived to be tested. The first is a sweater that is growing on me.

It is a bulky style using fine yarn. Expensive fine yarn on my part.

The second pattern has a hat and sweater. I've finished the hat and it is really cute.

I'm knitting the second sleeve and then it's on to the body of the sweater. I'm slow at this as I don't have a good way of knitting with 2 yarns and it isn't without trying to learn a way.

I finished another doll's pattern (tested it). It was a fun and cute pattern to do. Kit is wearing it as it is from the 1930's and her era.

I did buttonholes in the back. I am going to do more of these as I have figured out how to do them nicely using tear away stabilizer. I have scraps of it in the sewing room.

I didn't use the bow that was in the pattern but used organza ribbon instead.

I started March slowly as I got caught up in doll clothes. 1.65 meters in a week and still not finished one doll outfit. The pattern pieces were not correct.  :( I had to set it aside while the pattern was fixed by the designer.

I bought the fabric for a reading pillow on Monday and it was done by Wednesday. It goes to the library on Saturday.

I also bought .7 meter of fabric to make 2 wall hangings. One is on the machine and will be done tomorrow. That is my monthly purchased fabric used up. The rest of the month is from the stash. I do enjoy buying for projects that I will be making immediately. I quite happily dig back into the stash and sew.

The mittens haven't been knit yet. I got two patterns to test so they became the priority.

I did make a dress for the dolls during sewing time. I was going to test the pattern but it got published before I had a chance to cut it out. Here it is.

And the surprise is a bow in the back.

My Christmas fabric sewing had to be beaten into submission. I spent 2 hours ripping out the stitching and basting the fabrics so they wouldn't pucker. I put the walking foot onto my machine and success. I'll get the binding on this afternoon and will hand stitch it when I have to watch the embroidery machine.

I used up 10.1 meters of fabric this month. The majority of it came from the stash. I'm happy with what I accomplished this month. Goal for March is another 10 meters. I'm making DH a shirt for selfless sewing so that will be 3 meters used from the garment fabrics. Looking forward to sewing it for him.
