Whilst listening to the tennis yesterday I unpicked 48 blocks that I had done for a quilt top and hated. I now have a hump and a very tense shoulder and a big heap of wee bits of fabric awaiting a brainwave. It was a simple block and the bits are screaming log cabin at me. We'll see.  :S
What's the biggest thing you've undone...sewing or otherwise?

How do I get drama????
I desperately want to do July BOM and my little narrow scientific matchy matchy mind can't cope with choosing suitable fabrics.
I want DRAMA but I'm afraid we might be back to "clown vomit".
As I see it the options are as follows:-
Big colours...big patterns. C.V.
Small colours...big patterns. C.V.
Big colours...small patterns. No drama
Small colours...small patterns. Less Drama.
May I have some guidance please?

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Colour choices
« on: June 24, 2017, 20:10:14 PM »
First let me start by saying I've had a disaster.
I ordered fabric online and was prepared to put up with "difference in monitors" blah blah but what I received is boggin!!!! (anyone not from Norn Iron that means mingin!!!!)
Who knew if you shot royal blue with ginger you got cow pat?!?!?!  :x
I ordered two jelly rolls which looked quite different but are in fact quite similar and they are some sort of frayey, shrinky, wrinkly shot cotton in various shades of mustard, ginger, puke , cowpat, lilac washed with brown....etc.
I'm not wasting £40 so I'm determined to use them but what on earth can I put with them? I had intended to alternate navy with the lighter of the two from palest to darkest in strips but any "pure" colour I put with them will look ridiculous.
What to do ladies? What to do?!?!?!  :'(

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / HSTs
« on: June 10, 2017, 10:48:33 AM »
Today I will be making HSTs.
The more accomplished among you will be rolling eyes and saying "so what?"
Well here's what...I've never done them before.  :S
I'm using a funny wee method I came across so I've had my "hard sum" head on working out what my finished size will be.
It's the non-seasonal side of my sis-in-law's table runner using a variation of May's BOM.
Wish me luck.  :|
ps is it absolutely essential to starch...I'm aware of bias stretch and so on.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Grid square
« on: May 31, 2017, 15:10:34 PM »
https://www.creativegrids.com/acatalog/Stripology-Squared-CGRGE2.html

Hi all. I've been wanting a BIG square for ages now and I wondered had anyone any experience of the above.
They are used for strip cutting but can also be used for "squaring up" (not in a fisty cuffs way for any passing non dark siders).
Is it a case of killing two birds with one stone or falling between two stools and being useless at both jobs?
Your thoughts welcome.
Thank you. Wrenkins.
ps I love it here. I've already picked up tips on things I didn't know had tips!

Hi, I'm new... / Hello.
« on: May 24, 2017, 20:15:28 PM »
Hi.
Another new girl here. There doesn't seem to be a little face for startled or terrified so I'll just have to fling myself in.
I've recently bought a new sewing machine...nearly 40 years after buying my first, and I haven't sewn for donkeys ages so I think I'm in for a very steep learning curve.
Seems nice here. :)
