My son sent me a link yesterday: https://murdermysteryquilt.com/
Each month for a year,  you get a chapter of the story and pdf instructions for a quilt block, which builds into a picture giving clues which help you solve the mystery. Unfortunately it closed at the end of January or I might have been tempted, even at $9 per month.  Different techniques in the blocks.

In the wardrobe / Pockets
« on: January 25, 2019, 17:18:38 PM »
Seen on the BBC  that people are retweeting a picture of wedding group with their hands in their pockets.  YES, pocketses in wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses!  Useful for seating plans - and snacks.  Clearly I am not the only one who loves POCKETS   :loveit:

The Haberdashery / Button surrrounds
« on: December 02, 2018, 08:59:21 AM »
I have seen some buttons that sit in a metal 'dish'. the buttons can be exchanged for others of the same size.  They used to appear on some of the old fashioned  brands like Eastmoor.  Does anyone know the proper name for that metal bit?

Dolls and Toys / Barbie
« on: November 17, 2018, 14:18:38 PM »
Last year I acquired a couple of Barbie dolls and Ken to use as models for some dolls' clothes.  One was a talking dentist Barbie and I've just fitted her with 3x AG13 batteries, just to hear what she says.  Four sounds:  "Let's brush!", sounds of brushing, although more like scrubbing floors than teeth, a rather worrying drill sound, which google tells me should be the patient rinsing, and finally "Great checkup!".  (Barbie only talks in !!! marks)
She was part of a series of career dolls, but she wears enough long loose hair for a full size human and high heels in the surgery.  I wonder how many children wanted to become dentists after playing with her?
Googling brought up a description of Ken as the 'ideal boyfriend'.  One listing said he 'says what you want to hear'  but another was mute.

Tech Know How / Get from gallery to posts?
« on: November 13, 2018, 09:23:22 AM »
Is it possible to move from a picture to the relevant post?  I was browsing and saw a dress I liked, but couldn't find the original post.  I was hoping to see what pattern was used for it.

A Good Yarn / discount codes

Ordering wool from the Wool Warehouse, there seem to be a lot of discount codes on the web. Are these legit or some sort of scam? Can anyone explain?

Fun with Fabric / Help me identify this
« on: September 23, 2018, 17:18:05 PM »
Some years ago I bought a metre of - 'something' from Minerva crafts.  I found it, still in the posting bag but without an invoice, underneath my embroidery bits and pieces. It is 90cm wide, doesn't seem to have any glue on the back and it is quite stiff. It looks rather like Aertex fabric.  Can anyone tell me what it is and why I bought it?
And while you are here, what can be done with several metres of white Aertex type fabric, apart from sports shirts?
Many things coming to light recently, I can see I am going to be listing in the 'for sale' section soon.

Fun with Fabric / paraffin smell on fabric
« on: September 02, 2018, 17:36:10 PM »
Bought some coating online, it is supposed to be wool, but it felt dusty so I gave it a gentle wash.  The dustiness has gone but  there is a lingering smell of paraffin even after two washes and some fabric conditioner.  Any suggestions?  If I can't shift it, there is obviously no point in wasting time making it up.  It has been 'airing' in my sewing room for a few months and the smell seems to be increasing rather than diminishing.

Sewing Machines / Horrible topstitching - Mayday
« on: July 17, 2018, 15:44:05 PM »
Trying to shorten a pair of trousers.  Well, they are shortened, but the topstitch is impossible. It seems to be a sort of cotton canvas with elastane.  I have top stitch thread in the size 16 topstitch needle and ordinary thread in the bobbin. I am using a Pfaff QE4.0 and it has jammed and broken one needle.  Now it stalls after one stitch and says the motor is overloaded.
Is there a magic needle/ trick/spell to make this go right?  Can anyone help?

The Haberdashery / Repurposing
« on: July 16, 2018, 21:07:22 PM »
Just looking in to say I found a use for empty cotton reels (not me, on the Internet). Wind on those left over lengths of ribbon/ binding etc and fasten down with a pin. Naturally I had just binned a lot, but, there will be more, oh yes.
I still use my mini sharps box (emptu tictac box) for broken or dud needles/pins.
A small paperclip is perfect to fasten down the end of a reel of 'leather' trim that I didn't want to pin.
Any other useful oddments that you can recommend?
