Sew Magazine is offering a 3 month subscription, with a free coat pattern and 3.5 m of woolen fabric for £19.99.   The pattern is Simplicity 1254 but only up to size 12.  There is a larger pattern available online but  there will not be enough fabric for larger sizes.

Thank you but no, the ones I saw are dish shaped with a slot at the back and the centre button with a shank sits inside.  It is possible to remove the outer ring if the button is not sewn  down.
I bought Sew magazine and it has an article on embroidered buttons, the metal ring is around the fabric but it does not mention where to get the kits.  If i could buy the backer piece, I'd use cover buttons for the inside.
It also had 2 patterns, one for cape (!where have I just seen one?) the other for a princess seam dress with different cup sizes - sadly it was the one with smaller sizes.
If no one can help, I will write to the magazine, but I'm not as hopeful of help from them as I am from here!  They seem to be associated with Simplicity, like Sewdirect.

I have seen some buttons that sit in a metal 'dish'. the buttons can be exchanged for others of the same size.  They used to appear on some of the old fashioned  brands like Eastmoor.  Does anyone know the proper name for that metal bit?

A Good Yarn / Re: Use by dates on yarn

Mmm, just googled the dyer.  I think it was originally her own joke.
The yarn is also "for external use only".  Sorry I didn't see it right away.

Male garment, nightwear, outerwear, disguised repair. (And thank you for spending time and effort on this)

If you don't understand that, you are definitely not fit for your office. I bet you can't even see that lovely gold thread suit.

On the other hand it does have a sense of humour.  It would not accept SMG for Senior Management Group, but kept insisting on smug, or smog.

To be honest, I never looked at the pictures, just the info on shoulder pads.  I agree though, it seems odd.

Just found another little packet, it's a rectangle of perspex (?) a clamping plate and two screws. No mention in the manual but there are two holes in a bracket which would hold it in front of the working area, so I'm guessing safety device?  Nothing in the pictures but it makes some sense.  There is also a small plastic dust cover.
@Bodgeitandscarper  pliers OK for the wing nut although I don't like the look of the metal,  but the needle clamp has a screw (driver supplied)
Just fitted the plastic screen and the pre-drilled holes don't quite mate up with  the bracket but got it to hold. (Their screwdriver doesn't fit the little screws, but I have one that size) It does, however lift up out of the way for needle threading.
Didn't mention the knee lifter, you can use both hands to position the work and then lock it in place with the knee lifter.
