Hi all - May I pick your brains?
I’m new to sashiko and have been stitching pre-printed panels. I know the advice is to wash the panels once stitched, but I’m concerned about colour run. My panels are deep indigo and my stitching is cream. Just don’t want to run the risk of my stitching ending up a bluey colour!
For info, I’ve stitched the panels but there are white cutting marks between each ‘pattern’. I don’t want to cut if possible as I want to use them in a whole length.
Does anyone know if the colours bleed?
Thanks x

Lowena is the Sashiko Queen around here @mums sewing machine

Thanks @Iminei I’ll wait for @Lowena to swing by...

Yo!! It is I.
Yes, some of the dark blue / indigo panels can leak colour, but by no means all of them.
To be on the safe side I wash them on a gentle cycle with a couple of colour catchers in the machine. Better safe than sorry.
If you like Sashiko, you should try Kantha :)

I didn't know that you did sashiko @Lowena >:) that explains why I keep looking at the curved hand-stitched quilting on the placemat you made me for the mini swap! Thinking how perfectly stitched it is! <3 :)

You are too kind @Lilian :|

I was going to start a new thread but I want to ask about a sashiko panel.
I have done some sashiko in a workshop...

and used two layers of the indigo fabric.
I am about to start a bigger panel and wondered if you sew through the printed panel only or add another layer.

@Lowena

Thanks @Iminei I hadn't seen this in my hibernation :D
@Pearl I don't usually sew through 2 layers, only if the finished product is going to be heavily used.
Generally it is advisable to sew through one piece of fabric only.
The panel is gorgeous by the way <3

How is your sashiko going @mums sewing machine
-
Thanks, @Lowena . Good news. I can start straight away.
-
Looking forward to seeing it

I would think it also depends on the weight of the fabric ... if its particularly thin I would say through two layers to support the stitching, wouldnt you @Lowena ?
-
The fabric is usually quite thin @Iminei but doesn't usually need support unless the finished article will get a lot of use
