Sewing Machines / Re: Singer 5122 - how to thread tension discs?

Bring it all the way around and hook it into the blueish piece then go catch it under the pinkish spring then up from there to the take-up arm.

Thank you very much, Steve!

Sewing Machines / Singer 5122 - how to thread tension discs?
« on: July 21, 2021, 23:44:06 PM »
I have an oldish Singer 5122 sewing machine which I haven't used in a few years and I have forgotten how to thread the tension discs correctly. The instructions and images in the manual do not make it very clear. It's clear enough that the thread comes down on the right hand side of the discs and comes back up on the left but what is not so clear is how it interacts with the parts I've coloured pinkish and blueish in the below image. Does the thread go under the pinkish wire and then around the blueish bit?

Thanks very much.

Thanks for your responses. I think I'll go for the kind which doesn't require heat treatment.

I don't think the leather patches are meant to be used to repair anything but rather practice on. The repair comes from some kind of paste which hardens when exposed to air.

I have a jacket with faux leather arms and the material has cracked and broken up. I was thinking about using this stuff which requires heat curing and is more expensive or this stuff which doesn't and is cheaper. Does anyone have any experience to suggest whether the heat treatment solution is better?

Tech Know How / Suggestion: subforum for clothing repair
« on: July 22, 2017, 02:04:40 AM »
Maybe this is a stupid suggestion but I think it would be nice if there was a subforum for clothing repairs. I want to make a post asking about repairing leather using one of those leather repair kits but I don't think it really fits anywhere.

Thanks. Polyurethane-coated polyester or nylon seem like a good idea!

I have a raincoat that I wear when I'm cycling in the rain and it almost covers my knees by not quite so they still get soaked. I was thinking I could lengthen the coat by adding some waterproof fabric along the bottom but I'm not sure what is an appropriate fabric to use and label has faded so I can't tell what this fabric is made from except that it includes nylon. I could use a spray adhesive and/or sew along the existing hem. The coat is grey and blue so I'll probably aim for a dark grey but a close match is not important.
