A Good Yarn / 4.25mm knitting needles
« on: November 13, 2023, 17:55:39 PM »
4.00mm is too tight, 4,5mm too loose, so I thought what I really needed is 4.25mm needles. These are as rare as hen's teeth. I found Patons rose gold ones online, so ordered 2 pairs, as I always manage to lose 1 needle. They arrived, one pair totally useless as they have a burr on the point,  so will have to try to file that one down at some point. The other pair, have gone very rough at the points after 1 childs garment. I have ordered a bamboo pair from Amazon, to see if they are any better. I just wondered if anyone had found any other brand in 4.25mm needles, and if so where?

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / 50 mixed sewing threads
« on: May 04, 2021, 18:16:50 PM »
The destash continues. I've got way too many threads, so have some bags of 50 mixed reels for £25.00 Inc p&p. There are lots of browns, beiges, greens, with a few each of reds, pinks, purples, blues, yellows. There are no black or white. They are all decent threads, mostly coats. There may be a few heavier weight threads, and some are 200 or 500m reels

I got this machine on a dealers recommendation, but have to Admit I'm a Pfaff girl at heart. I have a couple of Pfaffs, and this machine is not being used. It was serviced around s year ago, and has only been used a couple of times since then. I have the narrow accuflex foot for it and a couple of other extra feet as well. I have the original box. Looking for £950 including insured delivery

Fun with Fabric / Santa suit fabric
« on: December 13, 2019, 16:55:59 PM »
Many years ago I made DH a santa suit. I could not find velveteen, so made it in cotton, and it has served well. However now that we have 2 grandaughters, it's time for an upgrade.
Has anyone come across a decent non-stretch velveteen in santa colurs at a reasonable price?
The last fabric I ordered off the internet was nothing like the colour shown. I don't need it for this year, but want yto buy it now whilst the christmassy fabrics are easier to find

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Vintage New Home (Janome) 131
« on: February 28, 2019, 20:46:49 PM »
I really need to free up some space, and need to get rid of this machine. It is absolutely beautiful, and looks like new. It has an electric motor, and hard carry case.  There are some spare bobbins, but no other accessories. I have just tested it and it sewed through 16 layers of fabric easily.
Is there any interest on here before I put it on Ebay?
Looking for around £40 plus P&P
Pm me for photos if anyone is interested

I saw a jacket in Tesco that was described as  a mac. Of course they did not have my size, and don;t have it online in the colour I want.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a similar pattern?

Vintage Machines / Machine Rescued
« on: September 30, 2017, 15:24:44 PM »
Today, whilst at the recycling centre I spotted a sewing machine. I was horrified that a machine would just be dumped, and just had to liberate it. All we saw was a huge plastic case, so did not have a clue what was inside. Well when I got home I opened the case to find this beauty. Fully working condition, not a bit of fluff in sight. Plugged it in and it runs beautifully. I have not threaded it up yet to see if it sees but I am confident that I will get it sewing.

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Sewing room flooring
« on: June 10, 2017, 19:03:31 PM »
I need new flooring in my sewing room. MY computer is in there as well, and I have 2 wheeled chairs, which have destroyed the laminate I have at present. I do not want carpet, and do not want laminate again. I am looking for suggestions for flooring that will work with wheeled chairs, and is easy to clean.

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Babylock Evolve has died
« on: May 21, 2017, 16:31:08 PM »
I was using my Evolve, it was all stitching fine, then I changed needle position from wide to narrow overlock.  The machine is not working now, there is light but no power when the pedal is pressed. Local(ish) dealer won't look at  it, as he doesn;t deal with Babylock.   It's not the foot pedal, as I have tried a replacement. Has anyone come across this and if so what was wrong? Is there a sensor somewhere that stops the machine if you do something wrong?

Hi, I'm new... / Another from TSF
« on: April 28, 2017, 19:11:36 PM »
I registered here a couple of months ago, and have just got around to having a look around. Life has been giving me lemons by the lorryload, and sewing has been sidelined, but I'm hoping to get back to it very very soon. In September last year, my dad's house finally sold, and I was just getting that all sorted out when my aunt became ill. We were not too worried as she had similar problems previously, but things went rapidly downhill, and in December we found out she had a cancer, and she died on the 6th January. I
am executor of her will, and found out that the Solicitor she had employed to write her will, has made a complete  bollocks of it. I complained to him, and he chose to lie to try to cover his own backside, not knowing that I had proof he is lying. It's all been a horrendous mess, and is currently in the hands of the law society.  I have been left my grandparents house, and promised my aunt before she died I would keep it, as I knew she would dearly love it to be kept in the family, but this may not be possible due to the solicitors mess.

In the middle of all that BIL died very suddenly too, so things have been pretty full on.

I'm also having problems with my health and still awaiting a definite diagnosis.

On the upside, I got a very very good deal on an ex demo 10 needle embroidery machine a couple of months ago, although I've not had time to do anything expect a quick test run.  I'm hoping that things will soon settle down and I will get a chance to sew. At the moment, when I have the energy, I don't have the time, and vice versa.

I'm hoping that haveing a read through the posts on here will help get my mojo fired up.
