Title: Think Pink Contest - voting thread
Post by: Iminei on July 13, 2020, 06:29:05 AM
#1 Manuela’s entry

I’ve been hankering after this COS dress since I saw it, just longer and with the pattern matched up

I’ve had the fabric for about a year, don’t remember where I got it though. I bought it because it’s just about pink enough and initially wanted to make a shirt dress. Cutting the dress was quite the balancing act as I only had just under 2 yards. Hence a centre back seam (with zipper) that took about forever to sew.
The bright colours cheer me up endlessly, sadly there is not enough left to make a mask to go with it

The base pattern is Tessuti’s Bella dress, but I changed about everything except for the basic shape. It has big pocketses as well  ;)

Pink and white variegated twinset
The cardigan is the Style Arc Nina.
I made some changes on my last version which worked well so this time I incorporated them into the tissue.
(Alterations  - dropped the waistline at the back round to the front. by about 1.5" at the back and .5" at the front. The waistline sits in a better place on me now. Also altered the direction of the neckband so its cut with max stretch going along the length, easier to ease and gives  great visual vertical line down the front.)
I used four different sewing machine for this (perhaps overkill!). The main seams are sewn on a standard sewing machine and then overlocked for a clean finish.
The outer edges of the collar/peplum are finished with a rolled hem done on the other overlocker and the sleeve hem is done on the coverstitch.
The Nina takes quite a lot of fabric so there was not a lot left, just enough to squeeze out a little cap sleeve tee. No real pattern used here, it is basically a slightly shaped rectangle with a neckband applied.

Coral Pink Raglan Top
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The pattern I used is Butterick 6690 which is a basic raglan top styled for stretch knits. The fabric is a very fine jacquard knit - with absolutely no stretch whatsoever! I bought it from Guthrie & Ghani at the beginning of the year. If you look closely you can see that it has little cacti all over it - they are knitted into the fabric.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I made a few changes to the pattern - shortened the length, straightened the side seam, and altered the curve of the neckline. I also redrafted the sleeve as I prefer it to sit more tightly round the upper arm.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I sewed the seams and the topstitching of the raglan with a standard sewing machine, then overlocked everything for neatness, and finished off the hems with the coverstitch. I didn't have any matching thread for the hems so I used rayon embroidery thread. It was a little shiny to begin with but dulled down a bit once I'd pressed it.

The photos aren't brilliant because I haven't mastered my phone properly yet but the top is light and comfortable for the summer - if we get one.

#5 Sheilago’s entry

Here is my pink baby quilt, it was made using fabric from my stash, with cotton wadding and backed with pink dimple cuddle fleece. The design is based on one I found online called Babe in the Woods, by Rachel Shelburne.
At present, I have no one in mind to give it to, but I know of 5 babies due before the end of the year, so it will be a play quilt for someone!
It went together fairly easily and as usual, with baby quilts, I was trying to use as many different fabrics as possible to give baby interesting things to look at. I had a little bit of unpicking to deal with minor puckers on the back as cuddle fleece can be a little tricky to deal with. ( You can never have too many pins!) I’m not sure about the owl fabric in one of the rectangles ( I think it stands out too much) , but my aim is not just to make a pretty quilt, but to make one children enjoy and I know my own grandchildren love looking at all the different images on the fabrics.
I straight line quilted round the main blocks, but then used free motion quilting inside the blocks . Being pink , I could use my old favourite: flowers and leaves, but I tried to do spirals too - think I need more practice at those!

 #6 Snoozi Soozi’s entry

I made a jumpsuit using Sew Me Something Cressida pattern. It's viscose which I purchased from the winkelwaggen people last year, and it hangs and drapes beautifully.

I added length to the bodice making mobility and sitting a little easier. I added button tabs to the trouser bottoms to enable me to turn up the hems. And I of course made a matching face mask  ;)

Ommissions were the back pockets and the sleeve cuffs, the fabric is too lightweight for those to be necessary.

I've worn it a few times already and am v chuffed with it, it cheers me up everytime   0_0

A tunic and matching mask in Liberty Jersey
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The jersey was from eBay and the pattern was from @annieeg, though I made quite a few changes to the pattern. The length was shortened and the hem changed to a hi-lo one; only the upper part of the sleeve pattern was used and this was extended to bracelet length; the neckline was changed from scoop to vee.

This was the first time I have made an overlap v neckband, but thanks to some some clear instructions found online (https://alinadesignco.com/2016/12/01/how-to-sew-a-v-neck-neckband/), no unpicking was required.

As seems to be norm these days, I made a matching facemask with the off cuts. Unfortunately even the mask can’t hide my frowny/squinty expression from looking into bright sunlight.

#8 BrendaP’s entry

A dress for myself with matching mask and tote bag

Pattern used
The dress is Simplicity 2249 (https://sewing.patternreview.com/Patterns/44544).

The mask is just pleated with elastic going over the head, as per tut on my website (http://paternoster.orpheusweb.co.uk/sewing/Face%20Covering.htm)

The bag I made up as I went along.

What  fabrics you used
Main fabric is a batik from Doughy's, the pink is a fat quarter from stash and the grey is the last of three duvet backs given to me by DD.

A short description on how you made it/problems overcome/etc.
Dress:  A TnT pattern.  I did make a pink tab for the front but it didn't look right and so I have removed it.

Bag: I was helping @Iminei get the right size triangles for a BOM tut.  As you can see the two blocks are not quite the same size, the front has a slightly wider border.  The handles are plaited like hair.  If there is a lot of weight in the bag plaited handles are more comfortable to hold.  There's a Suffolk Puff with a button in the centre to hide less than perfect points.  Sandwiched and quilted in the usual way.  Same fabrics on both sides even though the photos look different.

#9 Lachica’s 1st entry

Pink on blue - if it's not pink enough then disqualify me! This is the lovely cotton/viscose fabric which I made the toile for - hated the look of that - so have gone with an old faithful Prima pattern for tunic. This time I cut 14 on the shoulders (this pattern runs a bit smaller than their usual) and gave myself a bit more underarm coverage with an extra couple of cm on the bust but keeping the 14 armhole. I cut the armscye for sleeves but just made a half -sleeve, like a cap sleeve, the lower armhole is bound. The facing is made from polycotton dyed with Procion Raspberry. The colour came out perfectly for this print, a paler result due to the poly.   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]    [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]    [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

#10 Lachica’s 2nd entry

matching dresses for my daughter & granddaughter.
Fabric is cotton with a bit of poly, seersucker type with a slight crinkle. Grey, white & pink striped. Bought last year in Spain.
Pattern taken from a dress she already loves. Bodice very fitted, I made a toile & posted it to her, luckily it fitted. This was a first time doing shirring on the back, it was easier than I feared. Deep pockets added, as requested!  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Little version, bodice again copied from one which fits. Self-lined bodice. Shirring across back. Pockets like mummy's.   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]    [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Leopard Print Stretch Jersey Top
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The pattern I used is Simplicity 8376 which is a very simple t-shirt top styled for stretch knits. The fabric is a single jersey with about 45% stretch, bought from Flamingo Fabrics. It was fairly expensive at about £17/m but the quality of the jersey is excellent.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I made a few changes to the pattern - brought the shoulder seams forward quite a bit to allow for a rounded back, narrowed the shoulders as well, straightened the side seams, and altered the curve of the neckline. I also redrafted the sleeve to something a little more comfortable for me.

I sewed all the seams with a standard sewing machine first, using the super-stretch stitch on my machine, then overlocked everything for neatness, and finished off the hems with the coverstitch.

The photos don't do the fabric justice but I love this simple little top as it makes me smile when I see the fabric.

#12 Goth Gardiner’s entry

A Chanel style jacket with almost Goth style trims. Made for me.

Pattern was originally vogue 7975. Over the years I have tweaked it, including shortening the shoulder and increasing the size of the armsythe and sleeve.  I shortened the sleeve and drafted a cuff.  The "flare" at the b bottom is an addition for this pattern as I wanted the length but didn't have enough fabric.

Fabric was a piece of pink demin with a black weft (or is it the other way around?), left over from making a dress..

Just as I was finishing part of the lace tore, so had to do a quick repair, it was on the front obviously!

I really only wanted to use stuff I already had. Uncombined lace, black tape and machine embroidery too made the embellishments:

I didn't line this, as i wanted  more of a demin jacket look rather than a polished and lined item but am quite pleased with the inside, especially the Hong Kong finish.

#13 Toileandtrouble's Entry

I wanted to try out as many mask patterns as possible, so sorted out suitable fabrics. It turns out lots of them were pink and why not.  The picture makes them look greyish  but that must have been the lighting.  The masks I made show the proper colours.

Actually only made five in the end.

  Patterns,  clockwise from the top,
Gentleman Doll. Made this to match a summer dress  (- 25 tomorrow, so may wear it)
Trend patterns looks like it, but I thought it was from a  Korean/Chinese video.  I thought it gave the option of bagging out or binding the edges and continuing it on to make ties.  Manage to lose the 'address' although I have the printout pattern.  The outer is pink elephants on navy, lined with the pink striped shirting.  It has a filter pocket inside although I don't use it.  This one is the best fit of all of them.
Dhurata Davies  I found the measurent made it a little small, will try a larger size next time.
McCalls.   Easiest of all to make
Sew Much More in Store. Nice and simple, quick.

Pretty pleased with them all, but the 'Trend' one fitted best for me. Had to measure the elastic length individually for each type, the measurements suggested sometimes a little loose, sometime tight. Must depend on the type of elastic as well as the individual head.  Since the close date I have received a delivery of adhesive aluminium strips to fit the top edge better, but not had a chance to fit them yet. Still waiting for some tiny toggles which would make it possible to adjust the elastic to fit while wearing.

Thank you very much everybody and congratulations to everyone who participated. The entries for the contest are a beautiful display of the talent here <3

@Sheilago, to an extent, yes, but there is another reason.
After a couple of personal attacks over the last few weeks received in my capacity as a moderator, I quit all moderating duties on August 9th. Hence I am also not leading the contests anymore. I decided to take a back seat and also deleted about half of my post history - particularly posts that made me identifiable, and, hence, vulnerable.

@Manuela  Congrats on your win and I am very sorry to hear that you are no longer moderating.
