I might have been tempted but unfortunately it needs to be printed on paper bigger than A4

@Iminei Thanks for the offer, but part of the challenge for me (should I chose to accept it  -<) will be finding a way to convert it to a format suitable for tiled printing on A4.

Looking at the size, I hope that if I reduce it slightly, I should be able to get it to fit onto 6 sheets of A4 paper.

Good grief! That's a big job.

Everything else in life would have to stop completely before I could even begin to think about attempting that one.

Sorry not for me either, I looked and thought "do I like that?" I certainly have enough fabric I think. Then I started to read the instructions and I thought "No I don't like it that much" so thanks anyway Iminei. Keep us up to date with your progress.

Progress report - I have managed to convert this to a pdf which allows tiled printing and scaling  8).

I now just need to decided if I want to accept Iminei's challenge. I'm not too keen on rainbow quilts, so if I do decide to give this a go, I will probably try a different colour scheme.

I’d love to do a challenge but not keen on the design, though I do like the pointy bits, sort of New York Beauty.

I've actually made this quilt, years ago before I knew any better  :D

We were holidaying in British Columbia, Canada in 2005 and I bought the pattern from a beautiful quilt shop somewhere on the road from Calgary to Banff. They were also selling a fabric pack which made that part of the task painless. I didn't realise until we got home that detailed instructions weren't included, but in my ignorance ( I'd only been quilting about 12 months ), I just waded right in  :|
As I remember, I traced it onto 'stitch and tear' and did FPP for the 'swoopy' bits. The quilting motif in the swooping geese was specified in the instructions and became my introduction to FMQ.
After all that work, we didn't really like the resulting wall hanging so it went to the charity shop.

I've been playing around with the colours (electronically, not pencils and paper) and with a simplified colour scheme the design is growing on me.

There are some Oakshott samples and FQs in my stash that I might need to find this evening (just to check sizes seeing as I've not accepted the challenge ... yet).

Somewhere there is a photo, of the 'old fashioned' variety, if I can find it I'll scan it in and post it.

At the time, I wasn't worried about making it, guess that it's like sewing knits as a dressmaker- if nobody tells you that it's difficult you just get on with it.
I think that the fabric choices are the first challenge and as I said, I bought a readymade fabric pack, so making the whole process less stressful :D

(The mouse is included in the pic to show the sheer scale of the thing!)

OMG!!!!

Still its very comprehensive and together with the online masterclass ... Who Knows?!

I agree that having the pack would be a bonus, but I have tons of fabric and I believe there are things out there called Emporia ??!!

Well, it looks like I’m accepting this challenge. I need a project for my days at Leeds MQG and this might be it.

I need to scale the pattern so that I can use charm squares for the geese and I’m not sure what colours to use for the “spikes” but @Iminei said it was a challenge for the year so there’s plenty of time to make up my mind.

and a metre of each fell into my arms and begged me to take them home!!!!!

I was thinking I could use them for the geese, along with some batiks for the coloured geese backgrounds ?!

I thought in the first photo they were individual lengths of the same pattern in different colourways. It wasn't until I looked at the second photo that I realised it's all graded. Love the second fabric in the paler colours. Like the first one too but it would take some getting used to. :o

I had to order a top up of Oakshott for my colour scheme - it is rather a contrast to Iminei’s fabric!
Excellent service from Oakshott - I ordered yesterday morning and it was on my desk this morning.

This pattern is tempting me very much, but first I have to finish my two Bargello and start (and finish) the third one. Then I may start with that (if they is enough time left before Easter  ;)

Oakshott are wonderful!

Not only the fabrics but the service ...

Many times they have had me babbling on the phone trying to make my mind up what to buy, then an alternative address to send to, no invoice, that comes to me etc etc and they handle it all beautifully!

If you ever get a chance to visit them, do ... its like a sweet shop!

And Sakar and I have this from them too ...

The flying geese section has been completed and I am still wondering how such small pieces on the pattern require what seem to be such large pieces of fabric. There probably won’t be much more progress until next month’s MQG meeting.

Title: Re: The Sewing Place's Challenge Royale 2018 -

@Iminei I converted the pattern from gif to pdf and printed it onto 50gsm A4 paper using the tile and scale functions so I could have multiple copies if needed.

I’ve read through the instructions and I think I might be ignoring them and making it up as I go along as I don’t fancy trying appliqué with monofilament.

Another piece of the challenge jigsaw done. These three triangles were supposed to be appliquéd but I decided to FPP them instead. Of the 10 seams, I had to unpick two as I had not allowed for the seam allowance on the outer edge (the large glass of wine beforehand had nothing to do with this).

It is about 14" square and definitely not up to Festival of Quilts standard.

I'm thinking of making a straight line variation of it and using the two pieces to make a bag for my quilting rulers and rotating cutting mat.

Finished this with a day to spare for a 2018 challenge  :)

I designed a straight line variation on the original pattern and have used both panels to make a bag for my quilting rulers seeing as my latest purchase (a 15.5” square ruler) didn’t fit in my existing bag.

To give structure to the bag, I used Bosal foam but even though it is fusible, it doesn’t stay fused very well. Quilting was just stitching in the ditch along the major pattern lines. The bag is lined with a silk twill remnant from my stash and the handles were a bargain £1 from the Harrogate show.
