Tech Know How / Can't find 2021 Darkside BOM gallery
« on: June 14, 2022, 09:46:20 AM »
 :boohoo:
It's driving me demented, where is the flipping thing? I have seen it before so I know it exists. Maybe it's like that village - Glockawotsit - that only appears once every hundred years.

To show that I've made a decent effort, here's what I did:

There is a link to Darkside Galleries which I used to find this:

There is no 2021 gallery mentioned so I have no idea where to look now  -<

Trial and Improvement is a Great Thing @Iminei . It looks really good despite the shortcomings.

I'm waiting for my fabric to arrive.

The suggestions I had on the Unofficial fred for my design to complement a wiggly pattern
were to try Drunkard's path, to select a fabric with wiggly designs and/or to quilt wigglily.

I had a little go at the first and found it interesting but feel that on an 8" or 9" block - for a placemat - it doesn't do enough wiggling. The larger one is 3" squares then I reduced the pattern to obtain approx 2" squares. It was also quite tricky to get the pieces nicely square without losing or gaining a bit on one or both of the edges with the joins.

My FMQ skills are not up to lovely neat curlicues - in fact not up to anything at all  :ninja: - so I have ordered some wiggly-ish patterned fabric. A couple in case I don't like one of them.** And if I don't like either, I'll just have to head to Doughty's  :P

eta:
**Actually, 'don't like' won't come into it, they look lovely but if, on seeing them off screen, they're not what I thought, then I will need to find something else. In person. In Doughty's.  ;)

Ooh, very wafty. You need to sweep down a curving staircase in that one  :D

Lovely work @StitchinTime and @Mick  :perfect10:

Both entries are fun and different  :thumb: :thumb:

Brilliant @SewRuthieSews!

Just needs a colander on her head, a trident in her hand, and we can all join in with 'Rule Britannia'

This is not an entry but I have managed to dig it out from where it's been lurking.

Diamond Jubilee waistcoat and hat.

The sharp-eyed may note a TSP badge on the hat - that is a recent addition. The yellow plastic fork that belongs on the other side has temporarily gone missing; it's 'needed' for when two or three of the gardening forum folk gather together.

Sorry it's a hanger shot, I'm not suitably coiffed and made up at the mo  ;)

And some fab matching across the front, though I say so myself  :embarrassed:

@SewRuthieSews I don't see why you can't enter the competitions that you have instigated.  We all know that you wouldn't fiddle the voting to make sure you win each time ( unless you have a black market in tsp badges)  :)

I am also supposed to be a contest organiser but SRS is much more efficient at getting things started in good time. Perhaps I could take over the bossing supervisory rôle for this one now she's done all the hard work of launching it  ;)

Tick vg from me too.

This is not part of the competition but it seems to fit here.

Found some spotty fabric leftovers while looking for something else - as you do - and made 3m or so of bunting to use at the street party down the road next week.

Overlocked the long sides of the flags, practised turning corners on the overlocker, then found some 3/4 inch wide tape which folded over to enclose the tops and straight-stitched along.

That's a great idea @Sheilago , thank you. Any excuse to go fabric shopping, eh?  :ninja:

I'm just starting to experiment a little with Drunkard's path blocks @StitchinTime . Curved seams hold no terrors for an experienced lightsider and toymaker though I will have to learn to do them without tacking!

Hawaiin (sp?) quilting looks very interesting @Catllar but I don't want to go down the appliqué route for this one. However, it's in the 'Sites to See' folder  :thumb:

@Flobear Is that bottom tile upside down or are all the motifs like that?

 :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:  ;)

Nobodys perfect!!!

I would really like to come up with a block for placemats for my Sis-in-Wales' (not Plosh) kitchen table.

The pattern on the tiles is not suggesting anything atm. as it is wiggly and intricate. I wonder if any of the experienced Darksiders can point me to a place where I can see some ideas. Clearly I am not going to attempt to replicate the pattern - apart from the colours - but I'd like to come up with something that looks as if it belongs.

S-i-W is an artist and a calligrapher but only sews when necessary to make/repair something in the household or clothing line. I need to be able to show her several ideas to see what she would like. All I have been able to do so far is show her pics of the blocks in the 2020 and 2021 BoMs.

Thank you  :thumb:

I wouldn't be entering as I have plenty of UFOs to be going on with!
I might, just might, be tempted by the Tiling block as one of the **NSOs is a set of 4 placemats for my sister's recently tiled kitchen.

**Not-started objects
