Title: TSP's 2019 Project Linus Project
Post by: Iminei on January 17, 2019, 11:20:40 AM
After last years very successful and productive Project Linus Challenge, and following a consensus of opinion within the members who took part and those who followed along, I am hoping we will  choose to reprise our challenge and donation to Project Linus again this year.

Project Linus were handing out flyers at FOQ last year suggesting a theme to work to (they must have heard of our challenge) but I thought we might 'tweak' that just a lil TSP bit.  ;)

My first thought would be to set a criteria of using Monochrome fabrics + the Primary a FEATURE colour, be that Red, Blue, Yellow (or Green @Lowena !!   )  :P gr**n is NOT a Primary colour  :ninja:

Or we could specify quilts of a single block type ie, Star Blocks, Log Cabins, HST's ( @rubywishes  )

but please offer do any suggestions you might think will make a great quilt/competition.... I need all the help you can give me here.

It would be nice, for those who can, to get together again on the Thursday of FOQ to hand over the quilts personally as we did last year. An added benefit of this is we also get to meet, greet and take great pics of ourselves and the quilts; if you need a reminder of the beautiful quilts produced last year click here (https://photos.app.goo.gl/ToGv1udpmDgcv9hZ9)

As last year, anyone who cant get to the show can send their quilts to me in the weeks beforehand and I will take them up for you.

Last years challenge was such a success, not only within the TSP community but also for the children who received some fantastic quilts, so why not do it again ?????!

I'm definitely in this year as I now know the standard I have to ( hopefully ) reach  :ninja: I qualify this by saying that I cannot do not, do applique blocks or FPP  :x
Monochrome plus a bright colour would pickle my walnuts nicely........ as if I need to add anything else to my diary  :S

I think my walnuts could also be pickled by monochrome + bright.
I would be up for it.

Wikipedia Defintion:-

Monochrome means one color.
Typically one color is presented in different values and intensities — or different shades of the single color.

Of course when I said monochrome, I thought Black and White, Greys perhaps Ivories/creams .... with the feature colour bringing the POP !

I think of Lucias Quilt, aka as The Whale as being Monochrome with Red ... but then I am most probably wrong!

(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/MoeGV8tXEED_vn0EN9qrWaDNdZ9q8iswD7wuq0wjMULclcmj5Q8iQpQLzTBh5CJGp7MVISfAq001m0vY3qpX-xiN_alPjZzk-CW9ClRdw78_puWTKysuJjpk_K01zuGplj8oZo4QS3Nely_u9z8UeD8cdU78CxrJRSVyOxnE8XBWgaj5-H0kd5y4mlTVx_x7PRcthlOEhqobYQiN0GQguQiDAWd1v9o8DKlQ4SqxaD8cx9FPD_q3vk1CEOwjgANw6-ZYn97ywbGUyTLxXyZOV-V1eR4F-JO4mQ21H-MwcvKBYt3IrDglR_UdR2TEw92iJpcbFJLvKXtA4gF2RgbU4FVo0xaRirphQHzJ6ybwEwc23usSu13QRY_EYR2vAESV0sy6HtZco4EjaChqb0F6h4jR_tdkRaTH6XKiUQHwf7b-jKkHyl3g6r_ksNjwq-UNqU8L87cJuECcDBET3XlgS2wvYHw7vDvmY8fronRe_uwiEwwURxPVYJJvcK6H4UIBXNhRavPzb1POMyPhkRInhWYUclS4kAKDMngFK41ZED0QPtAed2HYEzvBw2AwSs_weWpdgZiQXf8AswjSvOXaqV7IgRQnbSzVlZPzxIgrjY6GYcJd8N49RGmcwCiP9-ElxL_CZRWww1AXjvHn2baNKFvMVJe5InffJ-de-ZkYPOug8SBAfrbWefNR-PTHS0IFsQ0Dqp2gs0Gt=w695-h774-no)

But of course if you want to go with the definitive definition you could make a quilt in all shades of Red say, from Lightest Pink to Darkest Vermillion and then add the feature colour ... Interesting thoughts ????

I assumed ( and I know one should never assume...."it makes an ass out of u and me ) that you meant, black, white, grey, cream and a bright colour to offset them, but I don't mind which definition we go for @Iminei

That is exactly what I meant, but I was asked about the definition of monochrome, so just wanted to make it clear!
Title: Re: TSP's 2019 Project Linus Project ????

I also vote for monochrome plus a bright.   :)

I have been heard saying I'm not going to the FoQ this year, but I also said I wasn't going to start anything new until I'd finished three outstanding projects, four hours before I started the Temperature quilt sewalong, and that I'm not interested in long term supply assignments (I've been there since June), so I'll see you there.

Monochrome means one colour

If you mean black, grey and white plus a primary then it's achromatic plus the primary.   Then the whole thing is monochrome. >:)

Imi's quilt, in it's entirity, is monochrome

gr**n is NOT a Primary colour  :ninja:

It's not a pigment primary but it is a light primary!

With coloured lights (white light passed through a filter) the primaries are red, blue and green.
With pigments (paints, dyes, printer ink etc) the primaries are cyan, magenta and yellow.

Aha @BrendaP  but we're not talking about "telly colours" are we  :P
I love grey with accents of really bright pinks, turquoises, yellows and oranges ....... if I ever finish all my projects that's a quilt i will definitely make for myself  <3

I'll probably be in if I can use the interpretation of monochrome as one colour plus a primary. :) I think I'd lose the will to live if I had to sew so much black/white/grey. Don't get me wrong - I love your pictured quilt @Iminei - I just couldn't sew it.

So why dont you make a small cot quilt (for PL) as a prototype @Lowena  ???

Interpret as you will ....the more the merrier @Kenora

Thank you @BrendaP , I can always rely The Goddess of Colour to come to my rescue

So shall we do it ???

Shall the theme be  Monchromatic or Achromatic + One Colour ??

That way it could be Red, Blue or Yellow as specified by PL or Fushia, Lime or Turquoise ... Completely ignoring PL's suggestion!!!

What do we think ???

I think we are looking at neutrals/black-white-grey plus any one colour of choice, primary or secondary.  Just forget about tertiary muddy colours

As a non participant and non quilter please feel free to ignore this but when the Project Linus flyer mentions  "children love to have bright colours in their quilts" I feel that having a lot of neutral and grey tones in the quilts could be a bit dull.

Spoken like a person after my own heart.  :loveit: We moved from Big City school Los Angeles to Podunk farm town Middle California midway through Kindergarten, so I would have been 5. I came home the first or second day and announced that I was not going back. When Mom asked why I explained that they hadn't even learned Red-Blue-Yellow let alone ANY Secondary or Tertiary colors. I was apparently appalled. I just assumed that all children knew at least through their Tertiary Colors and Split-compliments before they were 6.

And yes, my childhood water color set had 56 colors and was made in England. Every color had it's name printed below the cake.  0_0 :loveit: :cake:

Back OT: I'll just cheer you on and ooh and aah at the results. I'd do one for the local PL group but they won't even accept anything from a household that has dogs or cats. They just trash them.

But a quilt made of all (especially Primary) Colours can make one over exciteable as there is no where to rest the eye, if you know what I mean.

And can you tell me if this gorgeous creation is dull as it is certainly over 50% neutral colours

I think it's the tertiaries that children find dull; browns, beige, olive, mud and other generally sh***ty colours.  Black and white with a good splash of a bright primary/secondary is much more appealing.

I agree that a quilt made with all three colours could be rather busy (the flyer says “and”, not “or” in the colour list)and the size mentioned (36-42”) suggests to me that these quilts are for younger children. I think novelty prints might be appropriate in such quilts and could be popular with the children.

Would the following work as a “TSP tweak” and still keep in the spirit of the Project Linus flyer?
[Red, Blue and/or Yellow] plus [Achromatic/Neutral and/or Novelty]

It actually says 36" square to 42" square..... are we restricting ourselves to a specific size? I think it was 36" square last year...

Baby Quilts: approx 24”-30” square or 24” x 30”
Children’s Quilts: approx 36” – 42” square or 36” x 42”
Teenagers Quilts: approx 42” square or 42” x 48”

To me that means anything from 24" x 24" up to 42" x 48"

Remember, I'm in California. We are collectively nothing if not political correct and all accommodating. It is a bit tedious at times.

Your UK PL says able to machine wash and dry, with no dodads the kids can get injured by or tear off and choke on. It has a listing of generally suitable sizes with the comment that any will be happily accepted. Usually not over 48" in either direction.

In the US we get fussier. We do like to sue over minor things so we get more complicated. This is what is acceptable:

WHAT TYPE OF BLANKETS DOES PROJECT LINUS ACCEPT?
Our chapter coordinators accept NEW, HANDMADE, WASHABLE, blankets and afghans for giving to children ages 0-18 years. Project Linus blankets are not donated to adults. As a national policy we accept all sizes and styles, although some chapters may have more narrow requirements based on the needs of the facilities to which they donate. Project Linus has a non-smoking policy for chapter coordinators. Coordinators must be non-smokers and live and store blankets in a smoke free environment. Project Linus blankets must be of excellent quality and free from contaminants. Special care should be taken to ensure that blankets are free of smoky smells or any chemicals which could cause problems for a child. Ensure that blankets are free of pet or animal hair. Hospitals will not accept these blankets, and they will most likely be discarded. Recent studies show that laundering these blankets does not remove contamination, and in some cases can even make it worse. Always check blankets carefully for pins, and remove any embellishments such as buttons that could be swallowed.

And the list of what isn't acceptable:

WHAT TYPE OF BLANKETS DOES PROJECT LINUS NOT ACCEPT?
Project Linus chapter coordinators are instructed to reject blankets that are not of excellent quality. In addition they must be free from contaminants. Special care should be taken to insure all blankets are free of smoky smells or any chemicals which could cause problems for a child. Hospitals will not accept these blankets, and they will most likely be discarded. Recent studies show laundering such blankets does not remove contamination, and in some cases can even make it worse. Again, if unusually strong smells due to chemicals used in detergents, fabric softeners and dryer sheets, mold and mildew or smoking products are apparent, most hospitals will discard the blanket rather than jeopardize the health of a patient. Always check blankets carefully for pins, and remove any embellishments such as buttons that could be swallowed. Thank you for helping to make sure that Project Linus blankets are safe and healthy, and will bring only comfort and security to a child in need!

Typical size here is 40"-48" x 60", nothing smaller than 36" square.

Locally the Coordinator is a bit of a Needle N**i. Makes the Sewing Police types seem downright charming. If you have house pets she has said emphatically not to bother making a quilt as she will throw out anything with a stray hair on it. And yes, she does closely inspect all of them under an OTT light.  :S

So, I'll make a quilt for an Oldie instead. We have a local group that sews up Senior Quilts, for local home bound Oldies. They need a hug too.

As February looms, Can I have a roll call of peeps that are interested in joining in with this challenge.

The Sewing Place's 2019 Project Linus Quilt Challenge

Project Linus (https://projectlinusuk.org.uk/) have an excellent website
which tells you everything you need to know but basically we are looking to
make and donate quilts in one of these three sizes ....

Lap quilt – 36″ square
Cot quilt – 47″ x 55″
Single bed quilt – 55″ x 79″

Project Linus have suggested that participants use only Red, Yellow and Blue in their quilts this year,
but I think this might be a lil OTT all together ... but you may choose to prove me wrong !!!

To give a sense of uniformity for The Sewing Place's Quilts, I suggest

we each make a quilt in one of these colours,

Red, Blue or Yellow

in as few or as many shades as you wish ...

plus a neutral colour of Black, White, Ivory, Grey, Beige etc.

You choose the size, colours,  pattern, design and technique used.

The color for the binding is your choice too;
It could be your chosen neutral background, your chosen colour or Black,
which would frame and emphasise your lovely bold colour choice.

Please submit at least 3 posts within this thread relating to your progress ...
you can reveal as much or as lil as you wish!

The Gals at Project Linus will remove any labels to ensure complete anonymity,
so lets save them the trouble ... No labels please! :(

Send Pics of your finished quilt to me at  iminei@thesewingplace.org.uk before the 25th of July

and we will have an anonymous vote for the Best Quilt with the winner receiving an exclusive The Sewing Place Prize Winners badge.

The Festival of Quilts is on early this year, running from the 1st August until the 4th August,
please make a note of this change in your diary.

I'm hoping we can meet around midday at the Festival Of Quilts on the Thursday
and take them en masse to the Project Linus stand in the early afternoon as we did last year.

If you cant get to FOQ this year, don't worry if you can get your quilt to me before Thursday 25th July I will be more than happy to take it up!

This gives you almost SIX months to make your quilt.

That's it (I think) So Sign up here ......

So according to my lil red book we have quite a posse of Darksiders set for this challenge ...

but you dont have to be a Darksider through and through to join us;
You can join in at any time as long as you send me finished pics of your quilt
(front, reverse, any detail you want to highlight) by the the 25th July 2019

and if you are unable to attend FOQ for the handover,
make sure you get your quilt to me, again by the 25th July.

Mmmmmnnn....

I dont know, I do want to encourage more conversation in The Darkside but I think last years competition was excellent for peeps not knowing whose quilt were whose!

What do we think?

Fewer people seem to be frequenting the Darkside and chatting  :( I think discussion would be good. That way we can urge each other along ( I hate secrecy and feeling left out) Partly why I didn't submit mine last year @Iminei was that I had no idea of the standard of other people's work and felt mine wouldn't measure up. If we chatted and could ask questions, such as colour choices from @BrendaP I think it would be more companionable. I'd hate The Darkside to cease to exist through lack of use  :'(

Okay! I think i agree with you both ....

Part of the criteria will be to submit 3 posts in this thread relating to your progress ...
you can reveal as much or as lil as you wish!

Cease to exist?!?!?! They'll have to shoot us Lowe!  :ninja:
I'm all for chat me. (Did you guess?). I thought the reason for the not chatting was that there would be voting. It makes little odds really because we've seen enough of each other's decor to recognise the backgrounds.  0_0 Who else spotted @BrendaP's two floors last time.  0_0
I do think it's important to realise that during the chatting, a comment is not a criticism. Just because we have different ideas about colour schemes or whatever doesn't mean that somebody is wrong/right.

Two floors?  Did I photograph one quilt on the grey study floor and the other on the wood effect 'spare' bedroom floor?

I do think it's important to realise that during the chatting, a comment is not a criticism. Just because we have different ideas about colour schemes or whatever doesn't mean that somebody is wrong/right.

If we chatted and could ask questions, such as colour choices from @BrendaP

I thought it was one primary/bright colour (depends how you define primary!) plus black, white, grey, neutral but just don't let the neutral be muddy.

I'm using yellow plus black & white and white & black etc.  I spent most of yesterday evening sorting through the stash to find enough different yellows.  I had nothing suitable for the backing so I popped into town this afternoon after the family history helpdesk stint and bought a piece of bright yellow with an all over squiggley pattern on.  Hopefully it will allow the FMQ (if that's what I do -< ) to disappear into it on the wrong side.

No @BrendaP what I meant was your dark grey floor appeared twice so I knew someone had made two. I recognised your floor from the pics of the wedding quilt (I think...). I'm always on the look out for nice flooring.  8)
I've found a few bits of red and I'm hoping I can disguise the Christmassyness of them somehow. I might have to disguise it with something else altogether.  :ninja:
Even with all this chat I have no ideas coming yet. I don't want to do anything too babyish and I'm trying to keep it gender neutral. What an awful phrase  :x but you know what I mean.

In the interest of Darkside Solidarity, camaraderie, team spirit, (fluffed you up enough yet? ;)), keeping the chatter going, etc and ad nauseam, I will make a TSP Project Linus 2019 rules compliant quilty for our local Senior Quilts project, seeing as how the local PL coordinator wants nothing that might have a single cat hair on it.  :meow:

It'll be about the middle suggested size, as we do basically lap quilts and throws.

Report 1: I will spend this month contemplating what to do and keep my eyes open as I go through stuff here. I've been having a hankering lately to do pinwheels, so that could happen. I also really like doing Disappearing 9 Patch for some reason, and that could be my default. Also, despite not liking blue I have an awful lot of blue fabric and might use this as an excuse to get rid of it... ;) And then there's.......

Correction:  I will spend this month dithering over what to do and ....

The wedding present quilt wouldn't have fitted onto the grey floor!  but yes I did make two quilts last time; one was magenta and lime green the other was blue and yellow.

Can someone clarify the TSP colour requirements for me before I buy any more fabrics. If I am reading the post (https://thesewingplace.org.uk/index.php/topic,6305.msg101494.html#msg101494) correctly we are allowed one bright (red, blue or yellow) and just one neutral (black, white, grey, cream, etc).
Title: Re: TSP's 2019 Project Linus Project
Post by: Iminei on February 10, 2019, 15:53:06 PM
Correct SIT, but these are very loose guidelines ...

You may choose to prove me wrong about thinking a quilt made of red, blue and yellow might be too much for a child ... Im suggesting a neutral to rest the eye and give a background

You can use 1, 2 or all 3 of the colours within the quilt plus a neutral if you wish.
Title: Re: TSP's 2019 Project Linus Project

Thanks, @Iminei. It was the number of neutrals in particular that I was finding confusing given what was said in the post and what has been mentioned in chatter on here.

My top is now put together and measures 34" x 42".
Shall I leave it at that or should I add a narrow border all round?
Title: Re: TSP's 2019 Project Linus Project
Post by: fajita on February 11, 2019, 20:44:56 PM
Leave it if it's finished. No real point in adding an extra border. Their dimensions are only approximate guidelines.
I'm impressed you're finished so quickly.
I've decided on what I'm going to do, but have to finalise colours and shop for fabric.

Well done @BrendaP , it’s still a long time until FOQ!
I’m planning on a mix of black, grey, white with the odd dash of a bright. My fabrics have now all arrived, but it’ll be a while yet until I start. I now have curtains to make for my daughter, which is one of my least favourite sewing jobs. Too much crawling around on the floor cutting and pinning  :(
Title: Re: TSP's 2019 Project Linus Project
Post by: BrendaP on February 11, 2019, 22:43:21 PM
As it turns out the piece of wadding is just long enough for the top as it is.  With a border I would have had to do a lot of bitty joining at one end, so I'm leaving it as 34" x 42" and I've just finished crawling around teh floor putting the sandwich together.

I've got a busy few days coming up so the quilting will have to wait for a bit.

Right. I'm happier today. I took some of the pieces of the deconstruction, and sewed them together with some other bits, joined some long bits where I was running out of fabric, And I'm pleased to say I now have a PL top.
It will go away now because I want to make a shirt. I'll come back to it for wadding etc. at some point in the future.

It’s a wonderful feeling when you wake up at 3am and realise you know exactly what you want to make for PL.

I’m not sure if the rather excellent red we had last night at a lovely little Italian in Lincoln helped or hindered the thought processes but I now know what I want to do and I can start before I’ve got all my fabric.

I’ve just been reading back through the PL posts and hope I’m doing the right thing. My planned quilt is made of black grey and white fabrics, with a pop of primary colour. Hope that fits the bill. I made one block, photoed it and have been playing around with layout tonight, so if my plan doesn’t sound right, please let me know  :) before I do more.

Mine is shades of blue, bits of white, tiny touches of orange. Binding to be decided.  Probably a primary colour.

I think your neutrals with a pop of primary sounds closer to the rules than mine so far.

Project Linus accept quilts for children of all ages, babies through to teenagers.  Once a fabric is chopped up and reassembled it's teh colours which matter, not the original patterns.

I'll bet they get loads for little children but I think that the older ones are more of a challenge. I'm steering clear of 'kiddy' fabrics on mine. One will have a design suitable for all ages but I'm going to try and make my other one geared towards the older age group if I can.

None of my fabrics are designed for children and when sewn the top looks just shades of light and dark with a pop of colour. I messed up with the design or so I thought until the top was finished but now it isn't obvious. Go for it I'm sure it will be fine, what will you do with the fabric if you don't use it?

I think the monotone with pop of colour will be good for older children/ teenagers as they seem to get into grey and black as they get a bit older. Hopefully our quilts will be sophisticated enough to appeal to them!

The only date you need to worry about, if you arent taking them to FOQ on the Thursday yourself, is that I must have them here in DDD by the 28th July!

You've got plenty of time

Outstanding yet again Brenda!

Simple yet stunning I think the brief  of monchrome plus a pop worked really well there.

I'll get the pics done somewhen before 25th July!

A cat was one of the ideas I had. I've still got the fabric cats cut out. No doubt they'll turn themselves into a quilt at some point.

Love the piecing, quilting and don't mind binding... but sandwiching....... yuk!
Mind you, it'll be nearly 3 months from when I last sewed, when I will be able to start again, I may have forgotten how to do any of it...or lost interest entirely  -<

Having the extra time has taken the pressure off a bit but I tend to work best with a deadline. However once this is out of the way I can get back to the to-do list which is getting longer, any other P&Q will take a back seat. It's the threading in all the loose ends that's taking me ages but that's my own fault because of the way I've quilted it.

I'm quilting!  After changing my mind umpteen times I finally decided how I was going to quilt it.  Set everything up, quilt on the machine bed, needle down, foot hovering over the pedal and ......... I changed my mind.  I went back to the first idea I had that I thought would be too difficult but it's not.
I'll be a while.

I'm dithering about participating in this.   -<

Feel free to give me a kick up the bum or alternatively, suggest a simple yet effective pattern that could be completed in the time with fabric from the stash.  (I know we had plenty of time.)

Feeling a bit of a Darkside failure - didn't participate in cushion swap, not participating in Solstice mini swap, haven't made a PL quilt.  :(

You are NOT a failure. Ok I've done the Linus quilt but that's all the P&Q I've done for months. I haven't taken part in any of the other swaps - except last years Linus quilt, so what does that make me? Yes there are still a couple of months to go before FOQ and you may do one if you have the time but at times life takes over. If you're at FoQ on the thursday hope to see you then. :)

I’ve been procrastinating too @Pearl but today I sat down to do it only to find that I didn’t have enough stash to make the design I wanted. Hunted through stash again and have started cutting for a different design.  It’s all over the dining table so I’ll need to get the rest cut out tomorrow.  It’s more simple than my original design so I’m sure it will be done.

@Jobunnie and I will be at FOQ on Thursday and Friday.

I'm making a quilt but I won't be taking part in the competition. Mostly because a) I stupidly started it before the decision was made on the TSP theme, so the colours are all wrong  :S , and b) I sew so slowly that I doubt it'll be finished by the deadline anyway. :'( But I'll keep going at my own speed, and donate to Project Linus locally. At least they get another quilt that way. :)

Right, the second quilt top that meets the TSP colour requirements is ready for quilting, but I’ve a dilemma when it comes to the binding. Do I go with the one that looks better but is the “wrong” colour or do I go with the one that is within the “rules”?
Title: Re: TSP's 2019 Project Linus Project
Post by: BrendaP on June 14, 2019, 20:01:24 PM
I would go for the better looking one.  The rules are informal suggestions for the TSP challenge.  PL will accept any colour or design, but the nicer they look the better for the eventual recipient.

Well I’ve got my fabric, A very safe choice, but that’s just me at the moment. My quilting chutzpah seems to have gone walk about.

I have a totally free day on Saturday, so no matter how good the weather is I am going to get all my pieces cut and sorted. I can then just piece a block a day until my DH free weekend in early July, when I can make up the top, layer, quilt and bind. Then post off to Imi on the Monday.

That’s the plan anyway  :S

I intended to stitch the borders on mine at my quilt group yesterday.  I had pressed it and it was on my board so I thought I must remember that in the morning as I put my bits together.  In the morning I thought it again while I ate my breakfast.  I finished packing my bits, got in my car and went to my group.  When there I set everything out and I had the borders but the main piece was still on my board at home.  Good job I only live ten minutes away.

If you are sending to me, for me to deliver them to FOQ please allow enough time for them to get here.

PM me for my address if you dont already have it and do let me know when to expect it to arrive.

I will be at the mezzanine from 12ish on the Thursday ready to meet up with anyone and everyone who wants to get together and hopefully we will descend en masse after 1pm to the PL stand for a mass donate and photos!

Unknowns are @Lowena, @Ploshkin, @Ellabella, @Kenora, @Stitches, @WendyW ...

I know @maliw, @Pearl, @StitchinTime, @twopence  are attending on the Thursday and will hopefully be there at the handover...

I will be bringing Quilts from @BrendaP, @fajita, @Sheilago, which I have already received, with me and will be on the mezzanine from midday so do come along for a chat and to see the quilts which we will be draping artfully over the banisters!!!

Please Girls, do remind me to bring them with me the day before or so, I had a nightmare last night that I had forgotten them !!!  :S

Also peeps ...  I need your pics of your quilt ... front, reverse. detail ... by the 25th for our competition!

Sorry @Iminei I had hoped to post mine earlier this week but some unexpected extra Grandmaing stopped me.

I'll get it in the post tomorrow and sort out the photos.

My parcel was posted this afternoon just in case I can’t escape the workshop in time for the meet up and/or hand over. I’ve taken photos and will send them next week (is it to the PayPal email?).

@Iminei mine is nearly finished and I’ll take photos for you though I don’t think it quite fits the brief.  Jobunnie and I will see you there on Thursday.

I just need to square it up and add the binding, but ........ as I posted previously ........ I started it before the brief was fully established so it doesn't fit the TSP "ethos" anyway. :S :)

Oh, Man! I totally forgot about making a monochromatic one! Pics are due by the 25th, right? I may dive in tomorrow and see what I come up with. In the meantime, here's a pic of a scrappy one I just finished that is part of our local group donation to a children's hospital.

@Lowena - I wasn't going to enter the competition either because my quilt doesn't fit the TSP brief, but I've been asked for pictures so I'll send them. :) I'm not happy with my quilt either - if I could, I'd unpick every stitch of quilting, and do it all over again - but it's not going to happen. :o

@Iminei - my quilt is packed up and ready to be taken to the PO tomorrow morning. Pics to follow, as requested. :)

I will not be taking part. The weather here has been way too glorious to spend my time in the sewing room; yard re-hab has claimed my time instead. We just had a cement job completed and all the yard around it needs restoration.

Not doing that again!!

Gosh, @Lowena, that's expensive. Was it a large package? I fitted two quilts into a large shoe box and it was under 2 kg, so it was £3 to send it as a small parcel second class or £4 to send it second class signed for.

Post by: Kenora on July 24, 2019, 11:23:19 AM
@Lowena - I usually use Collect Plus for sending my quilts. I can take them into the local village shop who are agents. They're all over the UK. The fee is about £6.99 for two quilts on a 3-5 day service. I only used the Post Office this time because I was late sending my quilt to Iminei. :o

Its a good idea ...... Get given an animal (not literally) and make a quilt which involves that animal.

Shame - that would've been fun!

Seriously, it's a great idea as long as the animals picked are readily available in fabric. :)

Im thinking it would be a great theme ...

For instance ... Elephants .. you could make a quilt out of elephant fabrics or you could make a quilt featuring an elephant design or a block quilt with appliqued elephants ...

Were going to have to bookmark this one for next year I think...

Can someone put it in a safe place??? But not the safe place where all the other things I put are!!!
