Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Juki MCD 1500 light question
« on: February 10, 2020, 21:46:20 PM »
The light on my Juki MCS 1500 is never fully off. If the switch is set to “off”, the light is still on, albeit dimmer than if it is “on”. It’s only totally dark if I actually pull the plug out. I assumed this was normal, but is it?

Kandi professional hotfix rhinestone applicator - comes with tips for SS 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 30 and 34, and 4mm and 9mm flat . Only the one for SS16 has been used, and then only a couple of times. Also has a wire brush. I've decided I just prefer glue!

Technical Help / Fly front trousers front dart
« on: August 04, 2019, 11:43:05 AM »
Hello! I have a question about fly fronts and darts. I love my new jeans (see Sewing the Blues competition), but they and I are not quite the same shape at centre front.

The pattern clearly has quite substantial front darts transferred to centre front (see picture), but on me this cuts in a bit at the waist although the waist is overall the right size and they are a nice fit over the hip.

I realise I could straighten the front a bit and take the same off the side seam, but is there also some clever way to shift the “dart” into the pocket area without altering the side seam? That would preserve my nice side seam.

At the New Craft House in London. Not cheap, but it sounds amazing. See here.

For sale £15 including postage, the edgestitch foot (10) in the 008 series of feet for Bernina Activa, Virtuosa, Aurora, 3, 4, and 5 series machines. It has the narrow prongs and the notch at the back at the top. New and in its box.

This does not fit the 1008!

I was talking to the nice man at Rona Sewing machines in Waltham Cross today (18/02/19) and he said that he has at least one (I didn't ask how many or how much) of the Juki 735 combined coverstitch and overlockers. These are usually only available in the States. This might be of interest to someone.

It is a great shop, as well, if you haven't used them - very reliable and helpful.

In the wardrobe / Old fashioned hooks and bars
« on: December 19, 2018, 19:19:14 PM »
Hello! Does anyone know of a UK source for traditional hooks and bars, or more precisely the old fashioned wire type bar as the hooks are easy enough to get? Like these from New York.

They used to come in sets with one hook, one eye and one bar stitched to a card, but now I can only find the hooks and round eye kind, or the flat trouser fastener kind, neither of which is what I want.

I've tried various shops, and flea bay, but no joy. I can get a lifetime's supply from the States, but would be interested if anyone knows where to get them here.

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Furnishing Fabric Samples
« on: July 07, 2018, 23:01:25 PM »
I have a large box furnishing fabrics samples, mostly curtain/loose cover weight, 15-20cm square-ish each, from good makers like Sanderson, Romo, G P and J Baker, etc, mostly cottons and linens. They are a big range of colours but veer towards neutrals, greens, reds, and the like, not too many pinks or blues, in a mix of fairly bold prints, weaves and plains.

Are these anything anyone could use? I'm thinking crazy quilting or one of those pieced upholstery projects, or an unusual pieced bag? I've had visions of all of the above, but they aren't getting done and I could really use the space!

They are quite heavy, but there are also lots of them...

I'm happy to post them at cost (this might be something like £10-15 given the weight) or you can come and get them in Enfield EN2 (N London)
