In the wardrobe / Lynn Mizono, kimono
« on: July 05, 2019, 17:24:08 PM »

I had a go at this one, version B.
It was initially going to be in the stripes comp., but a little wedding made me run out of time. I've just finished the buttons/hole.
I like it more than I thought I would, but had difficulty sorting out what was expected of the sleeve ends - resorted to looking at the line sketch and doing my own thing.

Fun with Fabric / My New Pretties
« on: June 21, 2019, 22:37:34 PM »
I had some time in Birmingham today, as other half had a lunch meeting, so I cadged a lift.

I fell into the Fancy Silk Store. Oops

I bought one metre of this lovely velvety soft, suede textured on both sides, slightly stretchy fabric. I imagine some sort of polyesterish fabric. No idea what I'll do with it.

I also bought some 3 metres of pink cotton (polycotton?) fabric that might make a pretty summer dress or skirt or blouse. It's bordered along both edges though. Will have to give its use some thought.

In the wardrobe / Eau de Panic
« on: June 18, 2019, 11:41:35 AM »
 :frock:

Daughter gets married on 29th this month. Today is the 16th.

She bought her dress at the weekend. It's a 12, she is more like a 10.

I seem to have offered to alter it.

If it was a cheap cotton sundress I would be fine. But it's a WEDDING dress, with bones, and lining and princess seams and laced up back.

Soooooo, can anybody recommend me some reading/videos to cram before she turns up after work? Please? Pretty pretty please?

It is the Audrey dress here :- https://www.wed2b.co.uk/audrey

Fun with Fabric / Wanted, 20m muslin
« on: May 23, 2019, 16:16:30 PM »
If you were wanting around 20 metres of white/neutral muslin, to be used as side curtains on a gazebo tent, would you just search the Internet, or do you have a recommended source?

In the wardrobe / McCall's 2447
« on: May 18, 2019, 09:59:27 AM »
Mans waistcoat.

The pattern I have is for Xlg, Xxl and xxxl.
The body it needs to fit is Large size, ie, 3" less around the chest.

I'm 99% certain all I need to do is chop 3/4" off each side seam.

Can you confirm this for me please, before I start - soonish? Please?

Dolls and Toys / This will make you smile/scare you half to death
« on: May 05, 2019, 13:47:52 PM »
Faces. On dolls. I definitely need to attend a masterclass.
I've just finished my second topsy turvey doll, but the face has ended up like something from The Living Dead.

House Beautiful / Small Bench Cushion
« on: May 03, 2019, 14:36:59 PM »
My make this morning has been a bench seat cushion cover.
I ordered the fabric and got the foam cut to size in a local shop, bought some stockinette (as suggested by @Bodgeitandscarper on another thread) online.
I thought about piping, but would have had to order some cord, so did faux piping, (TopStitching the edges). The back is envelope style, but I've put a press stud in the middle as is a long cushion.

I'm happy enough with it, though I seem to have been a bit slapdash with my measuring. I might one day tidy it up, but no promises.

In the wardrobe / Mans tweed jacket
« on: April 03, 2019, 23:54:06 PM »
One of my sons has asked me to make him a blue herringbone tweed jacket.
I said it's beyond my skills.

My experience is I have made a couple of easy dresses and skirts  and  non-fitted tops, and some quilts, and curtains.

But is it?  Is it beyond a joke?  Or is it like making a shirt but a bit trickier? Should I run a mile, or give it a try?

Honest opinions, please.

Access All Accessories / Backgammon
« on: March 16, 2019, 18:16:41 PM »
Husband wanted a portable backgammon set. Asked me to make one. This is the result. Initially it was to have wooden dowels at either side to keep it taut, the tubes are in place for this, and it was going to go Into a plastic box. But on completion himself decided he'd rather fold it into a drawstring bag, so dowels not included.

Access All Accessories / Temporary Fix of Phone Case
« on: December 10, 2018, 13:59:19 PM »
My telephone case has given up the ghost after being a loyal servant for umpteen years. The sides have gone and the phone falls out.
I am fairly confident that a member of my family may be buying me a new one for Christmas, so I've attempted a running repair.
It won't win any beauty contests, but it holds my phone snugly once more -
for the time being.
