In the wardrobe / Pink Ponte dress M7714
« on: August 18, 2019, 08:11:35 AM »
I've made a start with this dress, I cut it out on Friday and lengthened the sleeves as I prefer long sleeves in the winter. Yesterday I did the tailor tacks and pinned the bodice parts ready to sew but I haven't the right shade of pink in my box of threads so when I go to town tomorrow for an eye test I'll get it from Franklins.

In the wardrobe / McCalls 6901 Trousers
« on: August 09, 2019, 14:14:23 PM »
I cut out the trousers yesterday using the houndstooth check, today I have sewn the darts in the front and back also the seams,  now I must find a suitable zip. I've got enough light brown satin bias binding for the waist facing.

Fun with Fabric / Fabric for M7714 Dress
« on: August 08, 2019, 08:08:55 AM »
I bought these two fabrics and the pattern yesterday, I plan to make trousers from the dogstooth check and the M7714 dress View C from the cerise/petunia ponte, I haven't decided whether use the contrast option.

In the wardrobe / Simplicity 2247
« on: June 17, 2019, 07:12:03 AM »
This is one of my favourite dress patterns and I have got some lovely blue and green cotton lawn to use to make a dress for the summer weather - when it arrives! I got the bodice part finished yesterday and hope to continue sewing today.
This fabric is so light and airy you could roll the dess up and pop it into your handbag ;)
The design is another take on William Morris, just love it.

In the wardrobe / Blue floral waistcoat
« on: April 23, 2019, 09:50:47 AM »
I've nearly finished the waistcoat, made using the last metre or so of the blue and beige cotton. I mamaged to squeak the lining out of left over bits. I've just got to finish off the side seams, the fiddly bit, I'll save that for another day.

In the wardrobe / Navy linen dress McCalls 6028
« on: April 15, 2019, 07:07:06 AM »
I changed my mind and decided to make this dress instead of an eight panelled skirt. I have made it twice before about 5 years ago and liked it.  The linen is quite weighty and better suited to a dress I think and I could wear it with the blue floral jacket I have just made. I thought I had a pic of me in the dress but can't find it, this is the pattern envelope. I'll make view D with shorter sleeves.

In the wardrobe / Pink skirt using bamboo fabric
« on: April 15, 2019, 07:00:03 AM »
I've cut out the 8 panels for a summer skirt, it is lovely and soft and floaty, it might need lining as it is quite sheer but I'm not thinking polyester, that will be too sticky in the hot weather. I'll probably use a silk charmeuse or similar to balance the weight of fabric. I was going to cut out the navy blue linen using the same pattern but as it is quite heavy linen I changed my mind - I will start another thread about that. I also cut out a waistcoat with the last remaining metre of the blue and beige floral I made the summer suit out of, I had just enough left over bright blue lining for it. My sitting room looked like the set of GBSB for a couple of hours with stuff everywhere.

Fun with Fabric / Navy blue linen
« on: April 11, 2019, 11:12:10 AM »
When I was in Woodbridge yesterday I bought some lovely mid blue, sort of denim blue linen for a 8 panelled long summer skirt. It is the same tone of blue as the pattern in the jacket and skirt I have just finished,  something else the jacket will go with. Now I've got 2 new projects in mind.

Fun with Fabric / Bamboo
« on: March 21, 2019, 15:43:30 PM »
Just got home from Norwich  and as well as the buttons, zips and lining I bought a lovely rose coloured linen like bamboo fabric for a summer skirt. Has anyone sewn this? It has a soft and lustrous feel but behaves like linen.

In the wardrobe / Summer Jacket and skirt
« on: March 03, 2019, 09:04:44 AM »
The plan is to make a summer jacket and skirt from this  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  heavy cotton fabric - I know, it looks curtain material but it is bold and I need cheering up. I have yet to get some suitable lining for it, I have made the jacket once (unlined) and was very relieved and pleased with the result. Hope to make a start today as the weather is awful.

In the wardrobe / Tweed trousers McCalls 6901
« on: January 06, 2019, 08:25:40 AM »
I have made this pattern twice before in summery fabrics and liked the style, I prefer a centre back zip so I'll change that again, the pattern has Palmer Pletsch fit and after a couple of toiles I got it right :) I hope to cut out today if my back isn't too stiff.

In the wardrobe / Grey and white spotted jersey nightshirt
« on: January 04, 2019, 10:30:02 AM »
I've got halfway through making this nightshirt, it is a lovely soft and stretchy cotton and elastane jersey, really comfy for nightwear. I plan to make some trousers with the checked tweed.

I bought these 2 fabrics when I was in Norwich last Wednesday, the spotted jersey is for a nightshirt, just an ankle length long-sleeved T shirt really and the tweed is for a pair of trousers.

In the wardrobe / Pink and grey checked skirt
« on: November 15, 2018, 08:34:08 AM »
I am making this pencil skirt from a metre of lovely pink and grey wool mix tweed, so far it is cut out and the front and back darts sewn, the zip is pinned in, I'm off to Norwich to get some pink lining as I hadn't enough of the various shades of grey and pink lining fabrics in my boxes to use. Also, it is another test for matching of checks for me.
