For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Re: Fabric for Sale
« on: October 20, 2019, 07:41:52 AM »
Hi Efemera. I’d love the check ponte weight jersey. It’s perfect for a skirt I’m planning. Hope it’s still available.

Hi, I'm new... / Re: Hello from Sunny Spain!

Hello Lisalou. Lovely avatar! And a Maine Coone too - how does your chihuahua cope with him! Happy sewing  :thread:

Just noticed Minerva has the same Burda sale on now. 40% off I think. Can’t work out if that is less or more but the children’s patterns are only £2.97. I like Burda patterns for fit but you'reright in that the styles are a bit on the dull side and the pattern photos don’t help much. I do occasionally buy the magazine - often the autumn or spring ones.

I was searching for a New Look pattern and noticed this sale on Hobbycraft.co.uk - it seems to be Simplicity and New Look patterns at half price. The postage is quite high at £4.50 but it’s free of charge over £20 and free returns. Hope this helps someone other than me to add to their stash!!  ;)

Dress Forms / Re: This lovely lady entered my home this weekend
« on: June 25, 2019, 15:27:45 PM »
Thanks for showing it. I saw one in a charity shop and really couldn’t work out how you got it to fit your measurements. The moulding idea seems spot on. Wish I’d looked at it more closely now!

I saw a little video using something like this on Pinterest- you might find video links on there to help. Looks interesting.

Sewing Professionally / Re: I think my business just got a boost!
« on: June 22, 2019, 08:38:39 AM »
Being relatively new to the grand parenting lark I can see how new baby basics in nice fabrics would be a winner. I’m sure it’ll be the boost you need. Good luck with all the new work. Hope you can keep up.

Thanks -  I didn’t know these existed. The Sewing Place is a terrible enabler for my fabric hoarding instincts! :o

Wow - I think they both look great. My favourite is the striped one because of the way you’ve rotated the stripes on the pockets. If you don’t wear if because it’s longer, you could shorten it a bit but I suppose that would affect the balance. I really like the skirt version one too. What a brilliant idea for a slightly fussy denim skirt. Looks so much better in this new incarnation.  :toast:

Patterns Discussion / Re: "Pattern Review" a grumble
« on: May 06, 2019, 10:45:38 AM »
I like sewing pattern review website too. I find it immensely useful when I’m working out a pattern, especially when there are lots of different reviews for the same garment. The photographs going sideways and being stretched out are difficult and I notice if I take iPad photos I have to put them through an editing program to get them to come out right way up sometimes. I haven’t done many reviews but I like the template they give you, and I always try to mention the size I used ( giving my own measurements) and my impression of whether it’s appropriately sized. That’s something I’ve found very useful in others reviews. I also try to give an honest assessment, and show a back view though sometimes I don’t have enough photos. I’m thankful that pattern review exists and it’s a lot more use to me than pattern companies own photos because I’m not in my twenties, or tall, or average size so I get to see others like me who’ve made the same thing.

Patterns Discussion / Re: Workers jacket?
« on: May 06, 2019, 10:29:46 AM »
Like you @Efemera I like the style of this workers jacket but I’m not going to pay anything near that for a pattern. I wonder if a shorter blazer style jacket, taking out the darts, would do instead. I might try McCall’s 6711. I’d rather spend the extra of fabric ;) In any case a jacket usually needs some work on the fit unless you’re lucky. Good luck with your search.

Congrats on finally getting the magazines. I hope my friend has got hers too now...I know she’s been waiting a while.

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Simplicity sale
« on: February 25, 2019, 14:28:29 PM »
I’m sure someone else has already mentioned this but it is the Simplicity patterns half price sale at Sewdirect, Minerva Crafts and I’m sure other outlets. I don’t know if it is on in the bricks and mortar shops too?

In the wardrobe / Re: New to me...

Wow they look really interesting patterns. I'd never heard of them. Thanks for the heads-up. I lie some of the dresses (unusual lagenlook- type effects).
