For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / For Sale Singer Promise 1409
« on: September 16, 2019, 10:39:56 AM »
I can't take my machine to Japan so I thought I would offer it on here if anyone is looking for a starter / beginner machine.
It's a singer 1409 and is very good condition, comes with some extra feet and a pack of new needles.
Weighs around 5kg and is boxed so can post at cost but pick up in Twickenham is preferred.
I have no idea about pricing so is £40 about right?

Publications / Mens shirts
« on: June 06, 2019, 10:32:19 AM »
In my continuing quest for mens sewing literature this little gem arrived today. It's a Japanese book : 男のシアツの本 (otoko no shiatsu no hon) roughly translated as 'Book of Mens shirt'. It has 19 designs in total and includes patterns  :D
It's beautifully printed and very tactile. I have been struggling to find a pattern I liked up to now so I am pleased that I can go ahead with one of these. I paid ¥1200 about £9! bargain.

I have my first pattern (Mccalls M7464) but I want to make it in size 6 at the bust and 10 elsewhere, is there a technique for this?

Hi, I'm new... / Hello
« on: May 01, 2019, 12:20:49 PM »
Hi everyone
I am new to here and sewing. I'm from the UK and based in London/Japan (Japan full time from the end of this year)
My main interest is in shirt making for myself, I find it almost impossible to get shirts that fit me well in the UK so I have been researching and trying some techniques from David Coffin's book on the matter. Saying that, the first garment I will attempt to make is a dress for my wife  -< I'm hoping it will be a nice surprise for her. I received the pattern this morning so there may be a slew of questions coming your way soon!
