Still have my boot on from my foot operation on 5 December, which doesn't help with the drop of my right leg. But nothing looks right with it, only 2 weeks to go with it hopefully!

I made these sequinned trousers in dark green for New Year's Eve at my sister's, quite pleased with them. I used an out of print pattern but hacked it to put elastic in the back rather than the back zip that was in the pattern. They're a little loose on the waist though, wondering whether to put the zip back in. Or shall I just reduce the elastic width, since putting a zip in will not be easy which is why I hacked the pattern in the first place?

Just finished yesterday! Nothing like leaving it till the very last minute!  :S

Unfortunately the dress isn't enhanced by my inelegant footwear- still recovering from a recent foot operation.

Thanks all, good discussion!

Are you making the dress or the tunic - both are very nice.

@coffeeandcake I'm making the dress in a red and white fabric- for Christmas Day.

Thanks for your replies, @Greybird @b15erk and @Elnnina , all very useful. I have actually sewed quite a bit using stretch fabrics and have mostly used a zigzag as I have had straight stitch seams break, maybe I’m tougher on my clothes than you all are! 😉 I hate using the lightning stitch though due to the difficulty in unpicking it.

One thing to be aware of on this subject is that Gutermann have introduced a new thread called the Maraflex which you can sew a straight seam with, I’ve yet to try it out. It is a bit more expensive that their standard thread at £3.15 for 150m compared to £2.15 for 100m of sew-all thread. Obviously a straight stitch takes less thread though than a zigzag so it should balance out. It’s on my shopping list for the next stretch fabric project so I’ll try that out and report back!

Thanks @Greybird do you see the seams with a straight stitch or with a zigzag or stretch stitch?

I'm looking for advice on making this pattern https://somethingdelightful.com/vogue-patterns/v8825#&gid=1&pid=1
and hoping that someone has made this already.

In the past when making stretch knit tops or dresses the instructions tell you to stitch tape into the shoulder seam to prevent it from stretching and starting to sag. But in this pattern the shoulder seams continue to the top of the sleeve as the sleeves are in two pieces with the back of the sleeves continuing from the back bodice. (I hope that makes sense!)

There's no mention of adding anything to the sleeve seam in this pattern which is confusing me. Any thoughts?
