Courses & Classes / Re: Shambellie House, Dumfries
« on: September 22, 2023, 17:03:30 PM »
Really weird,  my grandfather's first wife was called May Stewar from Shambellie House in New Abbey,  they didn't have children, he then married my grandmother and had three children, one of whom was my father. I remember going to tea with an elderly lady who was a Stewart back in the 60s in New Abbey.

I've always used an electric carving knife, my friend gave one, a wedding present in 1969, and never used!

Technical Help / Re: Poor buttonholes on Janome machines?
« on: February 06, 2022, 17:01:02 PM »
I had the same or with the Janome that I had, perfect test then the next one was a mess. I've only done little buttonholes on the Pfaff, I generally go to DM Buttons in London to get them done!

In the wardrobe / Re: rotary cutter
« on: May 04, 2021, 16:45:45 PM »
I had to cut lots of felt into strips once, went out and bought a rotary cutter as it was killing my hand doing the cutting with scissors.  Only used it for that though. I always use scissors for fabrics.

The fabric that I ordered from myfabrics arrived, they gave me 15% discount,  with shipping it worked out at £39, no duty to pay! Very good quality linen.

I have just managed to order two lengths of linen from myfabrics.co.uk, I think that they must have decided  to ship to the  UK again.

Technical Help / Re: Boiled wool coat - to line or not to line?
« on: February 07, 2021, 11:22:36 AM »
I've made Vogue 8933 in boiled wool,  and not lined it, doesn't stick too much in the arms. I've also made it in double faced wool where I did line the sleeves as it was a denser fabric,  the boiled wool had more stretch.
