Just about everything at our house gets a name...the vacuum cleaner ( a Hoover named Herbert) , the Jeep (Trevor-don’t ask why; my husband picked that one) and of course, the sewing machines.
Mine are;
1)The Janome- Naomi, after a cousin
2) The Singer- Beverly, after Beverly Sills, the opera singer (who was originally a Silverman, as am I)
3)The Brother- being an oversized machine, I named it Orwell.
What are your machines named and why?
-
Nope - it never occurred to me. The only inanimate object in our house that has a name is a Numatic 'George' wet-and-dry vacuum cleaner, which is called George since it's emblazoned on the motor unit.
-
Machine no but my dress form is called Gussie, as in gussie yourself up ;)
-
Not my sewing machines, but I do name my bikes - Minnie, Rosie, Pippy, Trinny, Pearl and Ellie 0_0 0_0
-
Ive only named my last two ... because I loved them ...
The Splurge (Janome Atelier5) because it cost a lot of money even secondhand (well for me at least) and The Splurgess (Janome Atelier 7) because it cost even more money (if bought new, in fact it was cheaper for me, secondhand, than The Splurge!!! :)

What about Elvis? You forgot him.
-
Indeedy I did ... Thank you @Puzzler ... Elvis ... my Brother Innovis 750E ...
as in Elvis is in the building ... and the body bag (Im sure some peeps were working on that one, at one time !?!)
-
@Iminei I was about to ask about Elvis too.
-
No, I haven't named any of my machines. The only thing that got named in this house was my robotic vacuum cleaner - and he's Neville - no idea why. :S
-
No... nothing in the house has a name.
-
I have various names for them when they misbehave!
-
Yes - see my signature. And the dress form is Aggie, who is currently weary my painting apron ><

I have one of those too. Her name is Rosie.

Some, but not all of my machines, have names.
My Janome 6500P is usually referred to a s "Big Girl", mostly because I had a smaller Janome that I referred to as "Little Girl"
My Janome 744D overlocker, that has a twisted frame, and vibrates itself and other machines off the desk, is known as Moira. That is my mothers name, and is because the machine is an anti-social old cow, who alienates everyone around her. She's also very loud.
My other modern machines haven't earned names yet, and my dress form is too new to know what her name is.
One of my treadles is known as "The Great Pretender", as its a modern treadle that I was duped into thinking was a vintage.
-
I only have a name for my featherweight Valentine because it was born on February 14th :vintage: :)
-
Sorry, don't have names at all, just Pfaffs and Bernine etc., never had names for cars either (before it was his and his). Sometimes I call the big Dyson Big Bertha or similar.
Even the poor new kitty gets called sometimes, the last kitty's name or even the one before that. The old lady cat from my stepfather sometimes even gets called Gernella because she is dark tortoiseshell and Gernella was a very dark apple face Seal Point Siamese.
Probably all down to my age. Would love to see the look on DH's face if I called him something else.

Mine are:
Esmeralda the Pink - a John Lewis branded Janome
Bellatrix - a 1948 Singer 201K
Bella - a 1955 Singer 222K (repainted pink)
Trixie - 1954 Singer 221K
Isabella - a 1974 Singer 338K
Luella - a 1964 Singer 221K in white (she’s in line to be repainted to her original splendour in November)
Arabella - a 1925 Singer 99K (handcrank)
So, I just fessed up to having 7 sewing machines, 3 in Thailand and 4 in Hong Kong....
Oh, my dressform is called Clothilde :)
-
None of my current machines have a name really. I have 3 dressforms at home and although the first one was given a name by my DGD none of us can remember what it was now.
However, I recently bought an old mannequin and recovered her for my daughter to use for rhinestoning the dance dresses and she was instantly christened with no chance of forgetting. Dear old Tattiefaloll - a name my mum always used for anyone turning up to an event over-dressed or dripping in jewellery. I've no idea of the spelling but it seemed very appropriate for the purpose and makes my daughter & I smile in remembrance every time the name is used.
-
Yep!!
Edie the Singer 99k, named after my Nan who bought it as a wedding present for her daughter, my mum.
Olive the Elna, named after one of (the real) Edie’s sisters
The Brother doesn’t have a name (apt as my real brother and I don’t speak!!)
And my overlocker is known as The Bomb, which was a name given to any piece of scary noisy equipment by my mum. It’s what she called the ancient pressure cooker!!

I had no idea so many sewists name their machines :o
None of my machines have a name.
