House Beautiful / Made a cushion
« on: September 14, 2020, 00:53:08 AM »
Just a little one, about 14” squareish.

They were the scraps (cut into 2” squares) from my black and red quilt, with some orange corduroy I had in the cupboard. The inner is half a pillow I’d disembowelled.

I kinda like it. I am keeping it.  :toast:

Fun with Fabric / Fabric from 2002
« on: August 27, 2020, 22:44:29 PM »
My friend gave me some fabric she bought in 2002. It’s 100% cotton, Mary Engelbreit design on black background.

Would you think it’s worth making a quilt from, or would you guess it’s barely got enough life left to make the effort a bit of a waste of time?

Embroidery and Embellishment / Pin cushion

Made on the V3, then stitched closed by hand. I used a too thick stabiliser, hence the white edges. But it’s just for me so it’s fine.

Current Projects / New Embroidery Block
« on: July 19, 2020, 17:14:17 PM »
I got this block, a download from Sweetpea.

I’ve made up a couple of blocks to see how it looked.
I used felt (just for the trial) and wadding and scraps.
I think it has potential for being a very nice baby quilt.

Access All Accessories / Doll Pocket Bag
« on: July 01, 2020, 23:20:00 PM »
I got a pattern for the embroidery machine from Sweet Pea.
It was pretty simple to make, the hardest part was saving it straight to usb as per the instructions, rather than onto the pc.

I used the 8x12 hoop. This turns out quite a big bag. Think if I did it again I’d used the smaller hoop.  As it is a small child could live in it.

House Beautiful / Possibly a Cushion Cover
« on: February 21, 2020, 12:07:16 PM »
I bought this stretch suede like fabric a while ago in Birmingham. It feels lovely and cool to the touch, but soft and stretchy, and with a nap when stroked. I’ve put a monogram letter J on it. Now need to decide on how best to place it for a cushion cover. I might just make it a slipcase with a long flap to tuck in.

Embroidery Machines / What is wrong with the letter 'G' ?
« on: October 07, 2019, 15:54:56 PM »
Having miraculously got the PE150 working the other day, I decided to make some name labels for use over Christmas. I managed everyone's names beautifully - until I got to the son in laws name. It ends in g.  The needle broke. So rethreaded and reneedled and again, got to the letter g and snap goes the needle.

So, apart from changing his name  ;) , any wise ideas why the letter g would cause a problem, and how to solve the problem?

Embroidery Machines / Brother PE150
« on: September 23, 2019, 19:23:07 PM »
This old embroidery machine used to belong to my mother in law. I have had it working in the past with its on board patterns, but now it just says "check if upper or lower thread is cut". I've rethreaded top thread and bottom, changed the needle and cleaned (though it was already spotless) it.   Any idea what to try next?

What lies beneath... / Simplicity 5314
« on: September 20, 2019, 00:36:58 AM »
I made myself a dressing gown. I'm wearing it now. It won't win any competitions but is just what I wanted.
I couldn't get it smooth around the neck and front bands, but I can live with it.

Material is from Doughtys in Hereford. 'Unknown Cats Glow in the dark Grey'.

Dolls and Toys / Body Parts Factory!
« on: August 04, 2019, 11:44:13 AM »
I've painted the pale bits with gesso. Waiting for it to dry before applying acrylic paint.

But - I'm beginning to wonder if I'll be able to sew the head to the body once it's set. Should I have attached prior to painting do you think?  I can't remember what I did last time. This is the way the instructions say, so it should be ok, right?

And how long does gesso take to dry?

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / My latest project
« on: July 15, 2019, 18:29:39 PM »
It's a quilt based on this panel, printed in Love Patchwork and Quilting issue 70.

I've done the panel, just have to decide where to take it to make it a usable size. I'm thinking baby quilt/playmat.
