I've finished my robe :)
It's in cotton lawn from Croft Mill, not quite the right time of year just now, but come springtime I'll be wafting around like a good 'un.
It's oversized and ankle length as I had hoped.

That's lovely - just my sort of robe. :)

Rotated and slightly cropped. Very pretty.
-
Cropped! Oh no :o @snoozi soozi wanted it ankle length.
Lovely robe, btw. Perfect for wafting about in.
-
Cotton lawn is just the perfect fabric for a summer robe, and this one is so pretty - lovely job. :loveit:
-
Beautiful fabric love the robe
-
Since I made my original Liberty Lawn Vogue gown, I'm hooked on them, it will be my third next and so easy to make.
Love your Spring flowers.
-
Thanks all, I already want to make another one :loveit:
-
What pattern did you use @snoozi soozi ?
-
@Vezelay it's this one. I was lucky to find it in Jaycott's sale a few weeks ago :) I made View A in size XL. From this pattern I've also made a nightshirt (C) as a christmas pressie for my bestie.

I have to second that. @snoozi soozi
One of the ideas rolling around in the grey matter is a robe. Thank you for the lovely post, this is a perfect idea!

I am going all 50's glam with

McCall's 7875 (https://www.sewessential.co.uk/misses-jacket-robe-trousers-belt-mccalls-pattern-7875-39898). When my sewing room is set up, this will be my first project. :D
-
I've made a top and bottoms to complete the ensemble. Excuse the sloppy presentation, I needed to show the separates

Not too much is it? :D
-
It's a gorgeous set - you will be able to waft around the house feeling glamorous! :loveit:
-
Dahling, it's Fab U Lous :D
Presume you don't have any pets who want to clamber on your lap? Pawprints tend to spoil the glamorousnessness.
-
That's lovely!! Genuine question for all : When do you actually wear this sort of ensemble? The way Jan works is thus: wear clothes till I go to bed, I undress, do ablutions, go to bed in the buff. Get up and straight into shower, get dressed in clothes. Repeat on daily basis. So try as I have I can't see where these lovely feminine floats would ever fit in!
-
Same as above. I'm either in bed and naked or up and dressed
-
The first thing I want to do when I get home from a day out, whatever the time, is to undress and put on my jammies. Not as glamorous as this little ensemble though. :loveit:
-
They look super, but another one here who has to be dressed when I'm up, and naked in bed, although I do just put a dressing gown on in between having been in the hot tub and going to bed - but that's usually only for the time it takes for the woofs to go out for their bedtime weesandpoos.
-
I never sleep naked and will often walk the dogs in my pj's, granted they don't look like typical pj's. There have been days when I haven't got 'dressed' at all and have gone through the day as I am. slob, moi?!
This wee Margo outfit might be reserved for a warmish day when I plan on mooching around the house :)
-
On weekday mornings I get up and see Mr Acorn off, then go and get abluted and dressed (a luxury of working from home), so that's one opportunity to wear a nice robe. Quite often in the evening I get changed into something comfy but nice - an opportunity for a posh-pyjama-type outfit.
My Mum, in the '70s or '80s, had a dress that she often wore in the evenings - long, brightly coloured velour - and I think that's where I got the liking for having evening-at-home clothes.
-
@Catllar, I sleep in a baggy vest and pants or nightie when it's cold. I lounge about in this
(https://thesewingplace.org.uk/gallery/5_03_04_17_9_24_40.jpeg)
which is going to be replaced by McCall's 7875 (https://www.sewessential.co.uk/misses-jacket-robe-trousers-belt-mccalls-pattern-7875-39898) (view C) until I get dressed at about 10am for either staying in or going out. My indoor clothes are worn until bedtime and I change into these from my street attire.
-
Fabulous robe @UttaRetch
This house is usually cold so I wear a nightie to sleep in plus a thick towelling robe to wander about in. Husband sleeps in the buff and has to remember to cover up when the grandchildren are staying!
-
Thank you but's not very practical. I have to undo the first four buttons to get into it. A wrap will be better.
-
I think I remember you making that one @UttaRetch ?
-
Well this has made interesting reading!
-
@Greybird, it might go back to the late, but unlamented Sewing forum days. :D
-
Lovely robe @UttaRetch I would wear that, in fact I would like to make one :) :vintage:
-
I used
(https://i.imgur.com/BVi8wBJ.jpg)
McCall's 6891 (https://www.sewessential.co.uk/misses-dresses-and-sash-mccalls-pattern-6891) and first made it as a dress (https://thesewingplace.org.uk/gallery/5_17_04_17_5_22_38.jpeg). The robe if fully lined with a plush-like fabric for a bit of warmth.
-
Ooh, ooh, ooh, @UttaRetch you've reminded me that's exactly what I did mumble-mumble years ago!
I have the UFO in a bag and need a suitable lining because the fabric is a) thin and b) cold on the skin. What did you use for your lining? I bought some brushed cotton but it was more sheeting quality and I didn't like it much.
-
The flipside
(https://i.imgur.com/sLcu32d.jpg)
The lining fabric is more substantial than a brushed cotton, but I don't actually know what it is since I bought it based on the feel and colour. I can't even remember where now, but I suspect some place cheap as £5 per metre is my limit. Sorry.
-
Not to worry. Thanks for showing the inside. I shall just have to feel up some bolts of fabric until I gind something I like ;)

I do like that floral robe. In face, it has inspired me. Making one for me is now on my 'to make' list.
