The Show Must Go On / Finally, tutu!
« on: May 02, 2021, 17:36:30 PM »
After such a long wait, competition is starting again in UK. This tutu was a last minute make for a lovely young lady who has blossomed in the past year.
The bodice shape is lovely (thank you Tutus that Dance) and is perfect for her body type.
Onwards...........

The Show Must Go On / How is your hard work treated?
« on: January 02, 2020, 19:58:35 PM »
I make dance costumes and classical ballet tutus in my local area and have been a bit dismayed to see how some of the kids, and their parents, treat the costumes. I see hooped tutus bent in half inside carry bags and children eating chips and greasy sandwiches wearing a new costume or tutu !!  :o
I recently delivered a "tear off" dress over a doggy leotard for a 4 year old's debut song and dance competition. The Mum gushed over the outfit, tried it on the child and left it dumped on the changing room floor as she chatted. Someone pointed out that it was there and she promptly grabbed it, screwed it up and shoved it in her bag whilst carrying on chatting. I hope my face didn't betray the annoyance that I was feeling.   ><

My husband tells me that they can do whatever they want after they have paid for it, but I think it shows a lack of respect, not just for me but for the beautiful costume.
Most are not like this thankfully.

The Show Must Go On / A couple of my latest costumes
« on: December 11, 2019, 16:10:28 PM »
After chatting with Jessie about leotards and stones I thought I would show a couple of costumes I made for last October competitions.
My granddaughter Aimee in black and her bestie Ava in red.

The Show Must Go On / Duck bum tutus
« on: September 13, 2019, 21:24:46 PM »
I have a question for tutu makers please.

I have noticed that the last couple of tutus I have made for smallish girls have a bit of an up tilt at the back (duck bum)

What could I be doing wrong that's causing this? It's not just the kids poor posture so I must have done something wrong,  it's  been a while since I made tutus.

The Haberdashery / Best rotary cutter for Lycra
« on: May 29, 2019, 18:55:44 PM »
I have been using a cheap cutter from the Range, albeit with decent blades, but it is driving me nuts as it keeps falling apart.
Looking for advice on the best to buy for using with lycra, stretch mesh and stiff tutu net please. Also a source for good quality blades as I seem to be going through one a fortnight!

Thanks all. :D

The Show Must Go On / Why I started making tutus
« on: February 12, 2018, 21:41:48 PM »
The reason was to make dance costumes for my three granddaughters. This is my little granddaughter no 2 wearing her new tutu for her very first competition. She was concentrating so much that she forgot to smile but her feet were beautiful and she remembered all of her dance. She even got a medal for fourth place and was thrilled. Nanny was very, very proud!! <3

The Show Must Go On / A bit late but Happy Ballet Day
« on: October 09, 2017, 19:26:15 PM »
It's been a while since I posted but I thought I would share one of my latest tutus to celebrate Ballet Day. Loved making this tutu although I had a heck of a time trying to match dye for the net, to the bodice. The young lady looked amazing in it.

The Show Must Go On / Thank you Suzanne Dieckmann
« on: August 26, 2017, 16:46:36 PM »
I was struggling with a Russian tutu not quite knowing what to do with the basque and mentioned it on a Facebook forum. The lovely Suzanne responded almost immediately with helpful advice and written instructions.

Thanks Suzanne (don't know whether she's on here)

Hi, I'm new... / Feels like home again!
« on: March 12, 2017, 16:09:06 PM »
Hello All, this is Lollipop aka Sewnanny from the other place. I am so pleased that Trickybottom (Georgina) mentioned this site as I've been having serious forum withdrawal symptoms which includes spending far too much on online sites!
Thanks Iminei and whoever else has been responsible for this site, I am so grateful that there are clever people like you!
Happy, happy, happy!!! :D
