Well done C!!!  Good job you managed to get them done or there would have been a lot of disappointed small children.

Your poor daughter!  I do hope she will soon be on the road to recovery.  I would go with the suggestions to make something for her bedroom, or bits and pieces.  Nothing dance related.

The grey thread sounds weird but it seems to give the feathers dimension and makes the outline stand out a bit.  Been channelling my old patchwork and quilting days for inspiration for this one.  Its amazing how all aspects of sewing and crafts in general help with each other, don't you think?  Wish me luck!  Ann x

I think the grey thread sounds great to give the feathers some definition.  Have you tried some silver metallic thread?  it might just give a little sparkle to them too??

Never having done a Swan Lake tutu, my advise might not be good, but how about cutting a few strips of tulle or net or whatever you are using and make them dagged, then make the next slightly longer & so on until you have covered enough of the tutu. I am not sure if thats what they have done in the attached picture, but it might inspire you.  Alternatively, you can buy ostrich feathers and just sew them into a wing shape.

Technical Help / Re: Holes caused by jeans

I agree with Sandra, as i spend a lot of time sitting/standing and sewing.  It is really annoying, but not sure there is an awful lot you can do about it.  Maybe it could be an excuse for more shopping??? :D

In the wardrobe / Re: There's no magic rescue to this is there?!
« on: October 13, 2018, 05:43:39 AM »
There is no "miracle" cure if you have twisted one of the zip pieces.  You can just unpick that one side of the zip and just a few inches of the back seam, and sew back on the right way around, then re-sew the back seam.

D.F, love the idea of a pinny and curlers, but not sure I have the right fabric to do it justice!!  Thank you all for your input, it has been really interesting reading.  I eventually went for something along the lines of the dress Lizzy777 posted, but I didn't have time to order the pattern, as I only had today to draft/sew it up, so I made it up.  Finger crossed it looks the part!!!!

Thank you.  Fajita,  I do love to see the costume in action, but rarely get to.  It is so lovely when the person is happy with it, they always seem to perform just that little bit better!

Patterns Discussion / 1940s style
« on: September 22, 2018, 10:29:13 AM »
I am going to a quiz evening next Saturday with a war time theme.  I was thinking of making a 1940s style dress to wear, but I am struggling to find a pattern or a starting point to draft one from.  Also, not really sure what kind of fabric to use, I am not massively bothered about it being authentic, just needs to look the part.  any ideas?????

I always ask if I can have a photo of the child in the costume I have made, but very rarely get any.  This mum did remember, and sent me a lovely picture.

I am sure it will all be fine, and the lucky little bridesmaids will be so in love with their beautiful dresses, who will care that the lining does or doesn't match exactly!  I hope you are feeling a bit more confident now, as you will make as wonderful a dress for the other bridesmaid!  As for your outfit, something even better will come up, believe in fate - it was meant to be!!!  :D
