Finished this SA Courtney top today using BF discounted jersey fabric. The hem is an utter disgrace, it just does what jersey does :S
I renew my vow to never sew with this type of fabric again ><
I love the top though ;)

@snoozi soozi , it's lovely! Love your fabric!
If you aren't happy with the hem, you could do a faux hem - like you've done on the sleeves, this would also give weight to it.
Personally, I just overlock and turn - but no stretching! ;)

@b15erk Thanks Jessie, as it's a curved hem I did what I usually do and ran a line of stitching along the bottom to use as a guide for the hem, but I wonder if this caused it to stretch at all?!
Your idea of adding weight with a band of fabric sounds good, it hadn't occured to me. P'raps on the next one ;) See how long that vow lasted? :S

Or perhaps the wonderful Wondertape?

I thought this thread was going to be about the latest reality star. I'll get me coat. 0_0
@snoozi soozi, anyone who notices your 'disgraceful hem' is too damn close. :)

I'll second Wonder tape. I find it particularly useful with a curved hem as the excess fabric is stuck down and doesn't shift along while you're sewing the hem.
-
I don't know about Wondertape so I'll research that, thanks ladies :)

@UttaRetch Me too!! I thought it was the latest Kardashian :S

@snoozi soozi how do you do your hems on jersey?
-
I’ve started using a glue stick, shock horror.
At the moment I use a Prym one that does not clog the needle. It’s especially good on knit necklines. Once it’s finished I’m going to try a standard glue stick. A friend uses one on her hems before she coverstitches and says she has had no problems.

Another Wondertape convert here.

@Ohsewsimple it differs, sometimes I leave things unhemmed if I can get away with just a zigzzagged edge. But, on the few occasions I have sewn a jersey garment, they have had a straight edge and generally look ok. This top, however, has a curved hem, as I stated in my earlier post I ran a line of long stitches along the bottom to use as a guide but it gathered up a bit.
The wondertape will be the way to go for this one methinks :)

@snoozi soozi I usually run a line of machine tacking to mark the hemline. I find it quicker than measuring and I’m lazy. :[. Then I turn and press with the iron. I coverstitch but a triple zig zag works well and keeps the hem quite flat. But the Wonder tape is a good idea to hold in place. Great stuff. I use it on all zips when I put them in.
