Apologies @Flobear, I thought I had posted this at the time I finished it. I hope it is OK to add it now

SewRuthieSews Entry
Black wool coat with faux fur collar and satin lining.
Simplicity 4003 View B with 6 inches added to the length.
The buttons, lining and fabric came from my stash. The wool fabric was leftover from an unlined jacket I made for SWAP 2009. I did need to buy shoulder pads and fray check. The sleeve heads were made with a scrap of batting leftover from my Rainbow Quilt.

Here's the list of 2024 contests

January/February  - Warm and Cosy
March/April - Something for the Home
May/June - Use the stash
July/August - Paris/Olympics
Sep/Oct - UFO
Nov/Dec - Festive Fun

Apologies for the delay in sharing this list, a sudden death in the family rather messed up my head in January.
As you know the wonderful @Flobear stepped into the breach and has been hosting the Warm and Cosy contest which I've enjoyed very much. Thankyou Flo, you are the best!

Official Sewalongs for 2024

We've carried on the Weekly Sewing Clubs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 2-4pm for those who wanted a sewing club to attend but don't have one locally. Please do come and join in with those if you would like.

New this year is The Official Scrap Quilt Sewalong 2024, for anyone who has scraps of quilting fabrics left over from other projects and 2024 Jeans Sew Along for those wanting to make jeans.
Other Sewalongs may be started during the year where there seems to be popular demand.

Thanks to everyone who joins in with the contests and sewalongs!

Very late to this thread @Sheilago I love your How Joyful Bear. You inspired me!
I have printed the pattern out added 1/4" seam allowances and put it in a plastic sleeve.

Today I tidied up the sewing room and mused a bit about multiple possible and partially complete projects.

I was here too. I've made up my 4 patches for the mystery scrappy quilt and pressed all 72 of them

40
I now have my square ruler set, so can presumably cut out all sorts of things....

That's great @Sara-S

@realale how sad for your mum. Was the laundry room chaos?

I am using a rotary cutter, it seems better for the endless squares P&Q requires. I cut out my garments with some fantastic Sheffield steel shears.

I don't need the 6 1/2 " squares yet for the patchwork pattern, so I've been working on my 4 patches (4 x 2 1/2" sqaures), which has mostly worked ok except for a few wrongly cut squares, and one block with an extra layer.....
Good use of the unpicker to sort the few issues out :-)

I should get my new square rulers Wed or Thu so can work out a sensible technique then.

I decided not to use the cotton lawn scraps, so have put them to one side.
I've cut out a lot of the pieces needed, so very pleased about that.
I'm going to start sewing my 4 patches..... I may be some time.

It is tricky isn't it.

The pattern I'm using has quite a chunk of one fabric to tie things together, then uses scraps of whites for the lights and medium/dark prints as contrast.
I went through my scraps and sorted them by colour. The drilled down the medium/dark print to ones that are mostly pink/purple/blue, then decided I have more creams than whites so I'm using those. Then I had to find something where I had at least 3/4 yard of the same fabric to bring things together.

I guess we can judge if its been a successful process when I've finished the quilt later in the year!

I seem to be being sufficiently drawn to the darkside that its worth getting the square rulers - have ordered some from ebay which I should be able to collect from the corner shop on Wednesday.
