Title: Ticking?
Post by: Surest1tch on June 01, 2021, 13:29:59 PM
Does anyone know where I can get hold of some good quality cream/natural colour feather-proof ticking please? I don't really want the old fashioned striped stuff because the outer cushion covers are a shampagne colour and I don't want it to show through.
All of my scatter cushions are feather, I've tried covering the original pads with a second layer of waxed cotton cambric which was supposedly feather-proof (hmph) but a few feathers still manage to poke out.
Thank you in advance.

Ticking has become quite problematic as it isn't in tremendous demand.

To get something good, you probably need to contact a good quality upholstery house and see if they can help you source. Or try to find an upholstery supplier on line, I'd expect to find something of quality in the UK. Here in the states. I'd use the traditional stripes if they worked, and then make a neutral inner cover before placing into decorative casing. Very hard to find quality here.

Thank you @Esme866 I did get hold of some cream supposedly featherproof ticking in the end. I'm a bit sceptical about it as it's not as thick as I've used before but the weave is quite dense so

Is your cambric from JA Milton? They sell a cream cambric and the striped ticking.

@Surest1tch Your fabric may do fine. Reading your answer, I suddenly remembered washing my Aunts 30-year-old-never-been-cleaned-Aunt B-smoked-5-packs-a-day-peach-colored-down-comforter a few years back. The fabric had held up great - nothing was pushing through and the fabric was much lighter weight than striped ticking. Hopefully you've got the same.

I was looking for ticking to make butchers' aprons about 6 weeks ago.  Went to my local John Lewis, from whom I'd bought it in the past.  No dice.  The only stuff they offered was on the fancy-fabrics rail (where I've seen curtaining at £175/m!) and, as it was 'designer', it was £30/m.  For ticking?!?  Jeez....

So I got a denim remnant in the craft dept instead.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

When I think of ticking, I think Ian Mankin. I used to go to their shop in NW London. It was a small, hole-in-the-wall place but fabric was beautiful and not as pricey as it is today. https://www.ianmankin.co.uk/

I know this is a bit old but I remembered someone asking about feather proof ticking for cushions and today I came across this at our local fabric shop.

100% Cotton Waxed Cambric Feather Proof Ticking Cotton Natural Fabric

https://www.bstfabrics.co.uk/Ticking/

I only really found out today that they sell from their website too.

Guess you are sorted now but might help someone out.

@Andymat £7.70/m is more reasonable a price than the £30/m designer stuff JLP are hawking!  Shall bookmark
