Title: Charity shop find
Post by: WildAtlanticWay on August 20, 2019, 19:53:13 PM
I bought a sewing book today for €3 in the charity shop. I picked it up to look at the vintage illustrations.

I can’t seem to post a photo of it but it’s the same edition as this one and in good condition.

Those vintage books have really good basic instructions and good diagrams for traditional sewing with wovens.

I too have a 'Singer Sewing Book' - no date, different cover and different authors but probably much the same era, possibly slightly later; it doesn't assume the use of a zig-zag machine but it does have a whole chapter about how veratile the swing needle is and it has a section about using the accessories, such as the ruffler and binders, which often come with  :vintage: :vintage:.  I also have a McCalls Sewing in Colour which is of the same ilk.

Cool! I love a bit of vintage, especially when it turns out to be a hidden gem! :)

What a great find.  :loveit: I bought an old Singer Serger book recently and it's great.
@BrendaP my 28k came complete with ruffler and binder attachments. I take them out, look at them and carefully put them back untroubled!  :S  :(

Well done @WildAtlanticWay !  Great find!  The old books are so full of little sewing gems - and nostalgia!

My very best find was my Singer 611g, for £20, followed by my Readers Digest Sewing Book.  I use both all the time.

In one of the local charity shops for a fiver.  This is a true "coat dress" in that the cuffs are buttoned but there is a trench coat style back flap.  It is also fully lined.

It's labelled as a size 10, so no chance and the brand label is sew onto the collar stand.  I did an image search, but found nothing.
