Patterns Discussion / Re: Style Arc patterns, is it just me?
« on: July 15, 2023, 17:22:48 PM »
This week i have made the Simpson Sweatshirt and the Richmond skirt (my 3rd). Both went together nicely but there are no complicated bits on either pattern. As with all SA patterns they are big/long and i know to size down and reduce the length.
But if you are thinking of making the Simpson it is ENORMOUSE and i ended up making the the size 12 which is still oversized, if i make it again i will go to a 10,  :faints: Now they are not words that i ever thought i would say, size 10, gasp

Sewing Machines / Re: My new toy.......again!

Just catching up with things and thought i would add my twopenath. You have tried to sew through a lot of heavy layers and ended up breaking the needle, if the machine has juddered trying to get through the layers then you may well have caused the shank to twist as it couldn't cope with the heavy layers. Plus and when the needle broke the foot may well have hit the needle plate causing the prong to break. Ask me how i know about these things .
Luckily for me the replacements for my Pfaff Performance Icon only cost £8 from Coulings.

I really like her style, particularly the denim dress she had on in children's week. Anyone  recognise the pattern? I am assuming she made it herself.

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Re: Kremke Soul Wool
« on: July 07, 2023, 17:24:47 PM »
Thanks @Missie, Knit Bliss Yarns is a new site to me, although i have now ordered from All About The Yarn I have bookmarked KBY as they have the Rowan Tweed that is on my list to buy and it is the cheapest i have seen so far. Annoying thing is that Rowan yarn is manufactured a couple of miles down the road from me and they used to have a factory shop but sadly no more.

Thanks @Acorn, funny how some sites don't come up when i search but do for others, must be something to do with what search engine we use.

Fun with Fabric / Re: How does broderie anglaise come on a roll?
« on: July 06, 2023, 18:24:25 PM »
@Tall_andy If it the same as i bought from Textile Express then the scalloped edge runs along on selvedge and the pattern goes all the way across the fabric. BUT the fabric i bought had a fault running every 15 inch and when i contacted the seller he just sent me an extra 1/2 metre but it still had the fault. i did manage to work around the fault and made a blouse with it. Photo of the fault can be found here

I recently took up the offer of some free Kremke Soul Wool from @LeilaMay  Sorry memory is awful lately so apologies if it wasn't you.
Anyway i have crocheted a shawl with the wool and i would like to buy some more to crochet a cardy but can't seem to find a UK supplier. Can you help?

Fun with Fabric / Re: Help with denim please
« on: May 30, 2023, 18:27:17 PM »
@Bodgeitandscarper have a look at this see if it helps. Dalton Mills have loads of different denims. I tend to use 8oz washed denim for skirts, it is a strong cloth but soft. I have also used a 14oz denim for a pinafore and it will literally stand up on its own it is that rigid. Cannot comment on stretch denim as i hate it so never buy.

Patterns Discussion / Style Arc patterns, is it just me?
« on: May 30, 2023, 18:12:37 PM »
I have been using SA patterns for a while now, i must have all the shirt dress patterns. But, is it just me that has issues/problems. The lack of instructions does not bother me but every dress i have made there is just something wrong with it. When you read the reviews every one raves about them but i cannot be the only one who leaves negative reviews, can I?
For example, the Autumn dress, i made 2 of these back end of last summer, tried them on fitted fine but never got to wear them until this week. Ok for the first hour or so then they start to creep backwards and i end up forever pulling them back on my shoulder. Before you tell me i need to do a forward shoulder alteration the dresses literally end up 4 inch away from were they should fit so that is one big alteration.
Then the Eileen, nice easy pattern goes together quick, but, the front bodice is curved but the skirt is a straight edge so the dress has a strange uneven hem at the front, surely the skirt should have a corresponding curve so that the hem fall even/straight?
The Max tunic, the front is perfectly sized but the back has so much fabric i ended up putting a channel in for some elastic to take out the surplus.
Anything with a collar and stand i have learnt to cut the collar/stand at least 1 size bigger otherwise it will be too small.

Anyone else have the same issues or is it really just me.

can't say i have been inundated with emails, about 1/2 dozen, which i immediately unsubscribe from. No doubt there will have been something in the small print to say this would happen

Patterns Discussion / The asymmetric gather dress
« on: May 14, 2023, 17:36:55 PM »
I have had this  on my to make list for a while but at £14 for a pdf keep putting it to one side. I am sure i could adapt an existing pattern. I don't have any trouble with adapting for the sleeves and waist gathers but what to do for the neck line.
I am thinking cut and spread the neckline at one side of the pattern and then do the elastic casing to bring it back to shape.
Would this work? Any thought anyone?
