Technical Help / Open zip tip please?
« on: February 06, 2020, 22:04:09 PM »
Does anyone have a tip on how I can fix the fraying insert of an open ended coat zip please?
I really don't have time nor the very patience at the moment to strip the zip out and replace it (and that would be if I could find one long enough without it being chunky)  I like the coat a lot and don't really want to get rid of it. I haven't worn it much but sadly I've had it too long to return it.  I do vaguely remember reading a tip somewhere on how to make a temporary fix and thought I must remember that but can I heck as remember where or how  :S any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fun with Fabric / Why do I do it?
« on: January 14, 2020, 20:40:57 PM »
At the moment I'm really involved in some heavy family issues so can't find the time or concentration to sew, so yesterday I was out shopping and spotted some new double bed size BHS popcorn fleece throws for £5 each, what do I do but buy 2 pale cream/off white ones with the sole intention of making something like a dressing gown and maybe a top from them.
I know full well it's going to be months before I can get back to sewing and I already have enough stash to start a shop with so why have I done it  :S :ninja:

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / FOR SALE : Strip patchwork book.
« on: September 13, 2019, 21:37:55 PM »
I found a copy of Strip Patchwork by Valerie Campbell Harding in a charity shop the other day thinking it would be an easy way into patchwork. Stupidly I didn't look inside it because I was only killing 5 minutes waiting for my hair appointment. I assumed it's contents would be similar to the cover but it's not and the pictures inside are mainly black and white.
If anyone would like it it's yours for the price of the postage, I'll try and post some pics of it so you can see what your getting.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Wadding question?
« on: August 11, 2019, 17:18:29 PM »
Would 6oz wadding be suitable to pad a dressmakers dummy out please?
Since the menopause my waist has disappeared and as I haven't a clue about wadding I thought one of you lovely people might be able to help me get the right weight before I order some.
Thank you in advance.

In the wardrobe / Style arc Elani?
« on: June 24, 2019, 10:34:19 AM »
I quite like the look of this top but the reviews I've seen aren't that brilliant. I must admit it does look a bit shapeless but it is only a sketch. I just wondered if anyone had used it and what you thought of it.
I've been really tied up with family issues for several months now and have decided it's time I started doing what I want to do instead of spending most of my spare time dealing with family but I think I've lost my mojo and thought this looked quick and easy enough to get me back into it.
Thanks in advance.

In the wardrobe / Cashmerette patterns?
« on: March 03, 2019, 19:10:20 PM »
Has anyone used Cashmerette patterns please? I finally got round to start sorting my sewing room out this afternoon, got a lot more to do in there to make it usable but it's a start 🤗. Ive just been looking at some of their patterns so what are they like please? I hover between a size 16 & 18 but being 6' I carry it well, however I do have curves that have  become more noticeable since menopause. I've put 2 of the patterns in my basket but really want your valued opinions please.
Thanks in advance ❤️.

Your Favourite Suppliers / Company to avoid.
« on: September 13, 2018, 20:45:34 PM »
I've just read about a company called Fabric Wholesale Direct, the lady ordered blue denim and was sent black which was 6" short on the yardage. When she complained she was told it must have been stretched by the cutter and she could have a 15% refund. Definitely one to avoid I would have said unless anyone knows different.

In the wardrobe / On the grain binding?
« on: July 24, 2018, 16:38:08 PM »
I've just placed the pattern pieces for a sleeveless V neck top on a piece of fabric, now am I being thick here or what or is it modern patterns, the binding for the armholes and neckline are poker straight and cut on the grain line. Has anyone attempted to use this kind of binding or have you gone with what you know and cut them on the cross?
All answers gratefully recieved.

In the wardrobe / Pressing lines in linen?
« on: July 20, 2018, 19:04:04 PM »
Does anyone know how to get tramlines out of linen without industrial equipment please.
I made some linen trousers last week, decided I didn't like how they looked and fitted so altered them. Now I can't get the tramlines out of them  :'(.

Sewing Machines / Jaguar overlocker?
« on: July 17, 2018, 10:12:50 AM »
Has anyone got one of these or know anyone who has please. My Janome is "playing up" and I'm looking to get another one as back up just in case it needs to go for repair whilst I'm in the middle of something, as is usually the case in this house  :S.
I don't know wether to get another Janome or one of these Jaguars,

This is the Janome

This is the Jaguar

Thanks in advance for your input.

The Haberdashery / Buttons & ribbons.

I can't sleep because it's so warm, some idiot is letting fireworks off and DH is snoring his head off . I know it's the worst thing you can do when you can't sleep but here I am surfing the net and found this place
I thought maybe you might be interested, I can't say it's got anything unusual but the prices are a lot cheaper than the shops are, or at least a lot cheaper than what I've been paying in the shops round here.

I used this site and must say I am very impressed by them. I ordered 20 small black buttons which arrived this morning along with a lovely letter and some free buttons as a thank you for ordering from them.  I'll definitely be using them again.

28 have got 25% discount on patterns and have offered free postage today because England won the football match last night.
myfabrics appear to come from Germany despite it being so if you order from them expect to wait a week to 14 days for parcels to arrive. For those who haven't used them before I've ordered from them several times and the fabrics I've had have been decent quality.

Can anyone tell me if pounce powder will stain or does it come off like tailors chalk does please?
Thank you in advance.
