In the wardrobe / Backing fabric?
« on: August 24, 2020, 09:08:22 AM »
I got an email this morning showing me this......

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Butterfly-Dot-Craft-Quilting-Backing-100-cotton-fabric-63-super-width-/114309539824?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10

as a few of you know I don't quilt so I don't know if backing cotton is a heavy fabric or not but I like this and wondered if it's a suitable weight to make a top out of. I'm also a bit suspicious of the price for 100% cotton. Can anyone offer any guidance please  <3.
Thanks in advance.

Fun with Fabric / Fabric search?
« on: August 10, 2020, 19:28:53 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get some Labrador printed cotton fabric from please. I've searched all the places I can think of but all I've seen is boring black & white or multi breed prints

Sewing Machines / Embroidery machines?
« on: August 07, 2020, 18:05:10 PM »
I've just come into £500 I didn't expect and believe it or not I don't really know what to do with it soooo after seeing some of the fabulous things you do with them my thoughts are going to an embroidery machine, something I said I'd never buy

Publications / Vogue business article.
« on: July 17, 2020, 12:49:57 PM »
Just stopped for a cuppa while I'm trying to clear my house of some of the crap that's built up in the house over the last year or so and having a browse around the web while I'm drinking it. I've stumbled across this and thought it might be interesting for some of the more curvy amongst us. Not sure which section it should go in so please admin can you put it in the right place for me, sorry if it's going to cause you work  :'(.

Your Favourite Suppliers / Logo' ribbons.

I know some of you like to put labels in your garments and when I saw this I thought about you. I don't sew professionally any more so have no need of labels so can't vouch for what they are like but if your interested perhaps you'd like to investigate the link.

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Cotton for masks.
« on: April 27, 2020, 17:18:30 PM »
I've got some patterned cotton pieces left over from other projects, if anyone is making masks and can use them please let me know. I'm fairly sure they are cotton as I don't usually buy poly cotton. They are for free by the way.

In the wardrobe / Brushed jersey?
« on: April 06, 2020, 21:11:28 PM »
Has anyone used brushed jersey please, I've never seen it in the flesh and am wondering if say a medium weight would be any good for something like a lightweight cardigan or is it as stretchy as normal jersey.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Technical Help / Open zip tip please?
« on: February 06, 2020, 22:04:09 PM »
Does anyone have a tip on how I can fix the fraying insert of an open ended coat zip please?
I really don't have time nor the very patience at the moment to strip the zip out and replace it (and that would be if I could find one long enough without it being chunky)  I like the coat a lot and don't really want to get rid of it. I haven't worn it much but sadly I've had it too long to return it.  I do vaguely remember reading a tip somewhere on how to make a temporary fix and thought I must remember that but can I heck as remember where or how  :S any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fun with Fabric / Why do I do it?
« on: January 14, 2020, 20:40:57 PM »
At the moment I'm really involved in some heavy family issues so can't find the time or concentration to sew, so yesterday I was out shopping and spotted some new double bed size BHS popcorn fleece throws for £5 each, what do I do but buy 2 pale cream/off white ones with the sole intention of making something like a dressing gown and maybe a top from them.
I know full well it's going to be months before I can get back to sewing and I already have enough stash to start a shop with so why have I done it  :S :ninja:

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / FOR SALE : Strip patchwork book.
« on: September 13, 2019, 21:37:55 PM »
I found a copy of Strip Patchwork by Valerie Campbell Harding in a charity shop the other day thinking it would be an easy way into patchwork. Stupidly I didn't look inside it because I was only killing 5 minutes waiting for my hair appointment. I assumed it's contents would be similar to the cover but it's not and the pictures inside are mainly black and white.
If anyone would like it it's yours for the price of the postage, I'll try and post some pics of it so you can see what your getting.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Wadding question?
« on: August 11, 2019, 17:18:29 PM »
Would 6oz wadding be suitable to pad a dressmakers dummy out please?
Since the menopause my waist has disappeared and as I haven't a clue about wadding I thought one of you lovely people might be able to help me get the right weight before I order some.
Thank you in advance.

In the wardrobe / Style arc Elani?
« on: June 24, 2019, 10:34:19 AM »
I quite like the look of this top but the reviews I've seen aren't that brilliant. I must admit it does look a bit shapeless but it is only a sketch. I just wondered if anyone had used it and what you thought of it.
I've been really tied up with family issues for several months now and have decided it's time I started doing what I want to do instead of spending most of my spare time dealing with family but I think I've lost my mojo and thought this looked quick and easy enough to get me back into it.
Thanks in advance.

In the wardrobe / Cashmerette patterns?
« on: March 03, 2019, 19:10:20 PM »
Has anyone used Cashmerette patterns please? I finally got round to start sorting my sewing room out this afternoon, got a lot more to do in there to make it usable but it's a start

Your Favourite Suppliers / Company to avoid.
« on: September 13, 2018, 20:45:34 PM »
I've just read about a company called Fabric Wholesale Direct, the lady ordered blue denim and was sent black which was 6" short on the yardage. When she complained she was told it must have been stretched by the cutter and she could have a 15% refund. Definitely one to avoid I would have said unless anyone knows different.
