Alterations Advice Please / Mending a tear
« on: February 11, 2024, 22:57:12 PM »
Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post this, the thing is i was taking in the sleeves of a casual jacket and was cutting the threads to neaten and i must have accidentally cut through the front bodice of the jacket. Its a really small cut which I didn’t notice until my customer brought the jacket back to me to show me.  It cant be stitched as its a polyamide fabric, so really thin.  What is the way to go with this please. Here is a pic with a finger behind to show the cut.

Patterns Discussion / Self drafted wedding dress toille
« on: July 03, 2023, 23:22:34 PM »
This is a toille of the wedding dress I’m making for my daughter.  As you can see from the pics, it doesn’t lie against her body but sticks out.  There doesn’t seem to be any excess fabric in the side seams to take in so not sure how to resolve this.

Your Favourite Suppliers / Fabric shops in Harrogate and York
« on: January 15, 2023, 18:53:53 PM »
Looking for recommendations for the best place to buy fabric in Harrogate or York. I’ll be on holiday there next week.  I’m making a fitted dress that flares out above the knee, self drafted. I was thinking chiffon top layer and satin underlayer. I’d like patterned chiffon and can only see plain coloured in the shops where i live.

The Show Must Go On / Greedo star wars costume
« on: May 29, 2022, 14:00:25 PM »
I’ve been asked to make a greedo costume from star wars and been given specific instructions.  I’m happy to take this on and self draft the costume but the fabric required is posing difficult for me, see below

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
The flight suit base color is similar to PMS 2183 C.
The racing stripe’s color is similar to PMS 7499 C.
Suit is made of a shiny cotton/polyester fabric.
A double seam runs the length of the Racing Stripes on each side to match visual references.

My question is how can i get the right colour match and does cotton/polyester come with a shiny surface?

Any help would be most welcome, thanks

Patterns Discussion / Help with winifred aldrich instructions
« on: December 12, 2020, 16:05:02 PM »
Hi, I thought i would try drafting the basic knitwear block from winifred aldrich womenswear book page 158 but I’m stumped just below points 6-8 where it says to construct the line at a 17 degree angle from the line at zero.  I have a protractor but don’t know exactly where to place it, maths was beyond me at school.  Is there another way to calculate this without the protractor.
