Title: Tip for inserting elastic into a waistband
Post by: sewingj on March 03, 2019, 14:14:24 PM
I bet many of you are already doing this, but this is the first time I`ve seen it in pattern instructions and I wish I`d thought of it years ago.
I`m making a pair of trousers for a baby which have got a simple turn over waistband -  you then insert elastic which is fixed onto a safety pin into the casing.  Instructions say:-

"To keep elastic from getting stuck in the seam allowances as it is inserted, use fusible web to anchor them to the garment within the casing area"

Brilliant!

Great tip. Of course I know about it.....so why do I never do it? :)

Thanks, I've never thought of that.  I will try and remember next time I am putting elastic in something but I daresay it will only occur to me when my elastic threader gets caught by a seam!

That really is useful. Now all I need is a tip for avoiding the elastic twisting just before I sew up the ends............
