Title: Wide soft elastic?
Post by: Francesca on April 03, 2019, 12:49:50 PM
Does anyone know if it's possible to buy the typical wide, soft, flat elastic used on mens boxers and the like?

I currently own a Calvin Klein bra with this lovely elastic:

I've just recently sewn a jersey slip with a cupped bodice but am not happy with the fit on my hips. However I love the supportiveness of the bra part. I've decided to cut it at the waist and turn it onto a bra (and maybe get another bra the same out of the skirt fabric). I'm trying to work out what elastic would be best to do the bottom edge.

I thought about a standard tricot, very soft, but not sure if that would work. I do't think I have enough for a casing and anyway I'm not sure a full casing would be very comfortable (feels like it would be a slightly gathered casing and bulky round my underbust). So I thought if I could find elastic that is similar to my favourite CK bra then it could be perfect

My only concern is that I've ordered waistband elastic before and it's nowhere near as soft. This underwear elastic is extremely soft and flexible, very thin, feels more like jersey than elastic. I've had "no roll elastic" before for going in a waistband and it's much thicker and would be horrible against the skin.

I have some nice soft waistband elastic, 4cms wide. No 'name' I'm afraid and only have Navy with a narrow White Stripe or White with a narrow Navy Stripe.
Can't master the photo attachment thingy on here, sorry.

That one is 30mm wide.  Other 30mm plush elastics are:

I managed to buy some that was described as "skin feel". It was quite expensive, hopefully it's good. It cost £6 and it's only enough for one bra (I need 110cm so I had to buy 2m urgh). If it's good I can at least get another 1m and I will have to put it together into two pieces for a second bra.

Not many colours though.
